I don't know much, I'm not a makeup artist, my aunt is one.
She always says that you should pick one thing to become an expert at and specialize in that. (For ex: contouring)

I'm a junior in high school and I'm in a class now and by the end of the year I will have my license. I asked my teacher and she said you can either need to have an esthetician license or a cosmetology license

Truth be told you are on a constant learning adventure.Every face and technique will be important and the business aspect of it is a must to learn. That title Makeup artist is thrown around so much that nowadays you don't know who is truly legit which is sad but I will say always be opened minded and soak up everything don't just stick to one thing like a cut crease lol that just won't cut it ;) Earn the title by earning the job's not just a friends or relative face or self profile's. It's a cutthroat industry it's not easy but it's worth it when you love what you do. Be sure to know the difference between a artist and a counter position, those two are different all though can grow into a profession if you put yourself out there but only you can do that.Always strive to be better never feel like you learned it all because that will only make your skills stale, keep pushing even if you feel you don't have the knack. Hope this helped a bit and good luck on your adventure. :)
