Should I get a perm?

Hi girls. Lately I've been really considering a perm, but I'm not so sure it's a good idea for my hair. I haven't dyed it in about 6 months, but a good portion of my ends were bleached, and they're a bit damaged. Other than that my hair is healthy, and once a week I do a deep conditioning treatment.
I have pretty flat, thin hair, and I love the way that curls look on me, giving me a bit more volume and life! I typically use heatless curlers overnight to achieve bouncy, ringlet curls and I love how they look, but it would be nice to be able to wake up with nice curls!
Not sure about the damage level though, I'm really looking to grow my hair out and don't want to ruin that process.
Another concern: one of my friends got a perm which looked great for only about a week, and then after that turned into a dry, frizzy mess that she couldn't even wear down.
Just wanting to hear what you girls think!

I think you should get it done ☺️

I personally wouldn't get it done if you are really wanting to grow your hair out and keep it healthy. My step mom used to get it done and she told me that it really damaged her hair. You are better off just using the curlers and maybe waiting until you are happier with the length and the texture and overall health with your hair before getting it done 😊 That is just my opinion. If you really want it done, go for it, but I just thought I'd let you know what I thought!

Yeah, I'm really concerned about the damage it will do, so I don't really know. The curlers give me the effect I'm looking for, it's just a bit of a pain to have to put them in and sleep in them every night to be happy with my hair.

I totally know what you mean! I used to do them for school all the time and it's such a pain! How often do you wash your hair? You could try to prolong the curls by using hair spray, putting them up before you sleep, wrapping them in silk so they don't get frizzy (just some things I like to do). That way, you don't have to redo them every single night!

I only wash my hair every 3-4 days, but I still wet my hair everyday. Sometimes I put a shower cap on and keep them for a couple days, but I don't like the look as much! I first started using these curlers because I had to for cheer and now I'm obsessed! Lol.

I completely understand! I've been wanting to get my hair permed as well. I have pin straight flat hair. I think if you do do curlers every night then you should do it! There are different types of perms, all differ on the damage done to your hair. If you're very worried about damage, you can get a perm for loose waves/curls :) Xx

I got my hair permed over a year and a half ago and it still looks amazing. I would never regret doing it. It did dry out and damage my hair but it's not terrible or anything. I would definitely do it. It's a huuuuge time saver and I never have to style my hair. They used big rods and small rods in my hair so it's a curly beach wave

I loved my hair when I got a perm a little over a year ago. It didn't seem to do that much damage honestly. Permanent dye seems to damage my hair way more than my perm.

The question should be if the maintenance required is worth it. Does it fit in your busy schedule called life. From seeing gf's getting it done they had to deal with the dreaded frizz that comes with new growth.

I've never had a perm but I do have naturally curly hair and if it's anything like natural curls. You're probably not ever going to wake up with beautiful ready to wear curls. It's a rare day when that happens for me. A lot of the time I end up showering in the morning and putting some anti frizz serum in my hair and let it dry naturally. That works best. Also you won't be able to wash your hair very often as it will dry out super super easily. But day two hair can be pretty awesome with some revival work. I came across a blog a while back about dealing with curly hair. If I find it again I'll post the link! Best of luck with your decision post pics if you do!
