So ladies I've been looking at contouring for a while and got myself a started set using creams, however when I try it I end up feeling and looking like I've been mixing concrete 😫 awful on my skin and can't wait to get it off.. Is it just me? Should I try powder? Btw I've got combination skin with breakouts often...

I've never contoured and I hardly wear make up but you could try powder like you mentioned since its a lot lighter than creams

I think contouring is tricky to do on your own especially the first time - there is a lot of misinformation out there and may not have been you - it could have been the tutorial or whatever you used as a guide - real contouring should look natural and like your face has naturally beautiful bone structure as opposed to harsh lines in the hollows of your cheeks - can you show us exactly what products you used and how they look on your skin? That might help to give better product recommendations

Using creams and liquid always feels heavy on my skin! I prefer powder to contour with. And I think it's easier to work with :)

Thanks ladies when I'm home I will send you what I have it wasn't an expensive set but I've always used cream foundation so just thought I'd have a try but wasn't for me

Like Katrina K, I prefer powders, as well. I feel like I have more control. I've seen videos with women using eyeshadow as contour - anythinger darker/lighter to highlight and recede is usable, I guess! Take lots of pictures so you can compare the before/after and figure out which look you like the best. Have fun!

I hesitated to write this because I'm new to contouring as well. I have a cream contour and a powder contour. Depending on the moisture in my face, I've used both and both can be tricky. I'd recommend starting with a very light application and building as you see fit. The right brush for each makes a big difference, as well. The absolute easiest product I've found are the Smashbox Contour Sticks. They're great for experimenting with highlighting too. They're very creamy, so they probably don't last as long as a thicker cream or powder, but they are just so easy and I just blend them with my fingers as opposed to a brush. I'm not sure about the quality of the sticks, as magnified I've noticed some blending issues, but they make learning a little less serious.

BTW - I usually use the Contour Stick to contour my nose - I have a bit of difficulty blending cream and powder well enough, but the sticks are lighter weight.
