When my sister got her ears pierced, Claire's (the shop) gave her special ear cleansing water. Make sure everyday you twist the earring whilst it's in your ear and buy a proper earring/ear cleanser. It's best to buy one made for that purpose other that using products from home.

You do not need to twist the piercing, it's not necessary and might irritate your piercing
Another thing you could clean it with is the H2Ocean spray, it's a sea salt spray that's made for piercings

As everyone above has said, use a salt water solution. Rubbing alcohol (hydrogen peroxide) can cause issues with the scar tissue. Neosporin would be good too, actually I've never thought of it. But I would apply it at night after your salt spray drys :)

You're supposed to use sea salt solution as your piercings are clean and not infected. Just clean them twice a day and don't poke on them and you should be fine! That's what my piercer told me when I got my septum done anyway. 😊 x

Saline spray or sea salt and water mixture is the best thing to use with a Q tip and clean the front and back twice a day for like the first 2 weeks after that once a day should be fine.

Saline solution only. Don't use neosporin or anything like that, it can encourage the wound to grow onto the piercing jewelry. You want to heal it exactly how it is rather than heal it how you normally would heal a wound like a cut.
Antibacterial soap should only be used if you suspect an infection. It can be very drying. Alcohol and hydrogen peroxide should never be used. You can buy a spray bottle and make a fresh batch of sea salt mix every week, instead of buying the same thing with preservatives at claires or h2o spray, because they really just are sea salt water with things that make it last longer without getting bacteria in it. Don't twist or move your piercing at all, doing so stunts the healing each time. Just soak it in sea salt and leave it to heal. Your body will know what to do, you just need to keep it clean.

I've had my first, second, cartilage, and nose pierced and every time I've been told to twist the earring with clean fingers after cleaning it with antibacterial wash.

Don't twist the piercing. All that does is aggravate the wound. The act of rinsing it moves it enough that it won't grow over the jewelry. If it feels like it's "stuck" then take a qtip dipped in saline solution and run it along the rim, with very little pressure and not trying to twist it. Twisting it just makes it harder for it to heal and can prolong the healing process by a lot.

I have all three as well! They gave me the cleansing solution and also told me to twist it. I twisted it and I was fine.

Qwaserght actually I've been told by professionals to do it because otherwise something bad can happen to your ear. I can't remember. But yes,it is necessary and won't irritate the ear. The ear will only get irritated if you don't twist the earring.

Shannon & Llesenia - it really isn't necessary at all, it irritates the wound. The wound around the jewelry doesn't need more reason to be irritated, and it can prolong the healing process. Nothing will happen if you don't twist it. I've had 9 piercings. I have never twisted mine, because I want it to heal properly, and nothing bad has happened. I've never even had an infected piercing. If you have an infection cleaning it is vital, but not twisting, because it can grow over the jewelry. But in the initial healing process twisting it has no benefit and only aggravates an already stressed wound.

I've been told every time I've gotten a piercing to twist it when I'm cleaning it. There's a chance the skin can grow over the shaft if you don't twist it. Always remember to have very clean hands before touching the piercing.

Angeline - the only chance of that is if you don't clean it. If you do regular sea salt rinses and let the water fall over it in the shower there's a very very very slim chance of it growing over the jewelry. It's not worth possibly getting an infection, irritating it, prolonging the healing etc. just keep it clean and leave it alone
