Evergreen tips for teens about Beauty, Skin and Hair
Beautiful looking skin and hair is a dream for most of the teenagers. But as skin and hair are exposed to the vagaries of weather, they are prone to damage. Whipping winds, dry air, and chilly and hot temperatures can cause lot of damage to your skin and hair. Many teenagers are not aware of the tips for maintaining beautiful skin and hair. Below are some of the evergreen tips about beauty, skin, and hair for teens:
Eat Healthy Diet
Eating good food will give a healthy and good looking skin. Try to include more fruits, fresh vegetables, nuts, whole grains and other healthy foods in your regular diet and limit the intake of fats and carbohydrates. These healthy food items have more proteins and less fats. As our skin is mostly made of proteins, more protein intake will give you beautiful skin.
Stop Smoking and Limit Alcohol Consumption
People who smoke expose their skin to toxins which accelerate the ageing of the skin. Smoking can also cause deep lines around the lips and crow's feet around the eyes as smokers try to deeply inhale the tobacco smoke or try to avoid the smoke from getting into their eyes. Consumption of alcohol beyond a limit can damage your beauty by making you weak. So, restrict the consumption to once or twice every week.
Massage your Scalp
Massage your hair each day for five minutes. Massage will stimulate the blood supply to your scalp and replenish your hair follicles with all the vital nutrients. Regular massage to your scalp will also help in reducing the stress to your brain. But, always remember to use the pads of your fingers but not the nails as the use of the latter can damage your scalp.
Shampoo Your Hair
Shampoo your hair at least three times per week. This will clean your hair and remove all the accumulated dust and dirt. Don't use conditioner on your roots. Conditioning your roots will strip of the natural oils that are secreted from the scalp. On the remaining days when you don't shampoo or condition your hair, just massage your hair and scalp gently with water. This will break up the natural oils secreted and spread them throughout your hair.
Give Oil Treatment to your Hair
Give some hot oil treatment to your hair. The generally preferred oils for hair treatment are Olive or Coconut oil. Heat some olive oil and massage it into your hair and scalp. After the massaging is over, wrap your hair with Cyran Wrap or plastic shower cap. Leave the wrap/cap on your hair for at least an hour and then rinse with shampoo.
Avoid Hot Water
Avoid or reduce the use of hot water, hot hair blow dryers, and similar tools. The heat generated from hot water and hot blow dryers can give lot to stress to your hair follicles and result in hair loss. Instead try to use warm water for your showers and use lesser heat on hair care tools like blow dryers. If you prefer to use hot styling tools for your hair regularly then it is advisable to give the above mentioned oil treatment to your hair at least once in a week.
Choose Mild Soaps and Warm Water
Always use mild but good quality soaps (soaps with high TFM). Strong soaps will harm your skin by stripping the natural oils from your skin. It is also advisable to avoid anti microbial and anti bacterial soaps as these can reduce the acidity of the skin which protect you against infections. Also remember to only use warm water to take bath every day. Taking a shower in hot water will make your skin rough by removing the natural oils. Long showers too can make your skin dry and make it look dull. So, restrict your bath time to under fifteen minutes.
Don't Use Petroleum Jellies
Don't use petroleum jellies like Vaseline for your skin. Instead, try to use A&D ointments. Unlike Vaseline A&D ointments contains lanolin and other vital vitamins like A and D which nourish the skin. Even though commonly known for treating rashes on the skin, A&D ointments can also treat dry, chafed, flak and cracked skin.
The following tips can help you in the upkeep of your hair and skin and overall beauty. But, remember that the most important factors that decide your beauty and the quality of your skin and hair are your genes, family history, your nerves, emotions, and immune system. While some of these factors are uncontrollable, others can be controlled well if proper care is taken.
