Well, first of all, be warned - it will definitely hurt! But I wax at home regularly now so it can be done. The best kind of wax I've ever tried is GiGi Brazilian Bikini Hard Wax. You can get it at Sally Beauty Supply stores or online...the first time I bought it I purchased the kit, which also has pre-waxing cleanser and oil included, as well as a hair minimizing lotion to apply after, so it's well worth getting the kit. Hard wax doesn't require using cloth strips and I find that it works better for bikini area hair, as its a coarser texture. Wax small areas at a time and make sure you pull the skin taut. Take a painkiller at least 30 minutes beforehand, and NEVER wax the week before your period as your skin will be more sensitive. Not sure of your age but I usually take a shot of alcohol, too! Lol. For after waxing I love Tend Skin...helps with redness and bumps.

Andrea, ive heard about the GiGi kit and that was on the top of my list of kits to get... i think ill try that one... where can you find Tend Skin?

I purchased my Tend Skin at CVS but it can be hit or miss to find at drugstores. Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Target and CVS all carry it...Sephora has it as well. It's a bit pricey but you only have to use a little.

Go to the section with the shaving cream...it's usually right near the aftershave products for men.

Sugaring doesn't hurt as much, but doesn't get all the hair by the root. If you make a mistake it is easier to remove.

I wax for a living and I'd always recommend visiting a professional. They can see bits you maybe can't and they'll be able to give you great aftercare advice. If your main concern is ingrown hairs, uneven skin tone and bumpy skin then the only way forward is IPL.

you can prevent ingrowing hairs and bumps by exfoliating and moosturising

sugaring is the best I use it always...it hurts only at the begining but the result is good n worth it.
the hair becomes little with regular use ...it doesn't grow fast though

I bought a GiGi Brazilian Hard Wax Kit from Amazon for $30....best investment ever. No strips required, the wax hardens and you simply rip it off. It's uncomfy, but doing this yourself, you can control the pain level. It's a tolerance you will build up! Results are worth it

so tonita, u dont put a strip over it? how do you rip it off then?

Jan 23, 2013

Andrea L.

You rip off the wax itself. Sounds weird but its very easy. You use a thicker layer of wax than if you were using traditional wax and strips.

I have a funny story about waxing, probably not appropriate for this venue though. Absolutely see a professional to have it done at least once before attempting it yourself. I've also found that a hard wax in the most sensitive areas is better than a strip wax.

haha michelle my friends have told me many of their stories with waxing... they are funny and painful at the same time! lol

can anyone explain what sugaring is?

Jan 25, 2013

Samantha B.

Sugaring is basically the same concept as waxing, except it is done with a substance made of sugar, honey, and lemon juice!
