In many regions, humidity and heat are in full force in late August and September, so it's important to stay hydrated and refreshed. Keep cool with these simple (and edible) cucumber skin-care concoctions!
Moisturizing Banana-Cucumber Mask (for normal to dry skin)
-
1/2 cucumber (washed, skin on)
-
1/2 banana
-
1 Tablespoon honey
-
4 Tablespoons lemon juice
This mask is perfect for dry skin–the banana and honey pair perfectly with the cucumber to gently refresh and nourish! Blend the cucumber and banana together in a food processor or blender, then stir in the honey and lemon juice until you have a smooth consistency. Transfer the paste into a small bowl and use your hands to apply an even layer over a clean face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Lie down for 30 minutes and let the mask work on your skin. Wash off with lukewarm water and pat skin dry with a towel. Apply a light moisturizer afterward for extra hydration.
Refreshing Cucumber-Egg Mask (for normal to oily skin)
-
1 cucumber
-
5 fresh mint leaves
-
1 egg white
Cucumber, egg whites, and mint all team together to refresh and tighten slightly shiny skin. First, peel and de-seed the cucumber, then cut it into cubes. Blend the cucumber and mint together in a food processor or blender. Meanwhile, whisk the egg white separately in a small bowl until it starts to become firm. When it's ready, add the egg white to the cucumber-mint mixture. Continue blending until you have a smooth paste. Transfer the mixture to a small bowl and use your fingertips to spread it over your face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes, then wash off with cold water and pat dry with a towel.
Cucumber-Infused Water Cooler
-
4 cups water with ice
-
1 large cucumber
-
2 sprigs fresh rosemary
-
5 to 10 mint leaves
-
4 Tablespoons rose water (available at your health-food store)
-
Honey (optional, to taste)
Sometimes you want to hydrate from within. Luckily, this yummy and refreshing cucumber cooler is very easy to prepare. Fill a large jar or bowl with water and ice. Chop the cucumber into quarter-inch thick slices and place into the water. Break rosemary and mint leaves into large charks, and place into the water. Infuse your concoction with rose water and honey (if you prefer a sweeter taste.). Mix it all together with a large spoon and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, you'll get to sip on a healthy and earthy cucumber-infused cooler!

I just made the moisturizing mask. I can't wait to see how it turns out, I'll apply it while watching a movie tonight. The two things I can say so far is it's very runny, at least mine is like liquid rather than a thick paste or anything. And one other, it isn't for the weak stomached because it does NOT smell good. But I am willing to pay the price for a fun, inexpensive, homemade face mask! :)
