Few makeup looks are sexier than a classic smoky eye. The nighttime staple is always in style no matter the season or soirée. But creating a dark, runway-ready effect—without ending up with raccoon eyes!—is a delicate process. Beauties, we know many of you are planning to rock the sultry, statement look (like Meredith J., above) for this New Year's Eve. Having the right palette will save you tons of time and create professional-level results. So we rounded up our Top 3 smoky eye kits.
TOO FACED Smoky Eye Shadow Collection
Going from day to night? Whether you’re opting for the classic charcoal ombré look, subtle wearable neutrals, or even a cool colorful effect, this kit has all the range of shades you could need. Plus, the nine shadow palette ($36) even comes with fantastic step-by-step instruction cards for beginners.
DIOR 3 Couleurs Smoky Ready-to-Wear Palette
If you’re looking for an easy tool for creating a simple effect, try this three-shadow mini palette ($48). The tiny kit—which is a favorite of celebrity makeup artists—contains sparkling black, grey, and silver hues and is perfect for stashing in your tote for touch-ups.
SMASHBOX Girls on Film Smokebox Palette
Dark and lovely! This stunning palette includes rich pigments of dark purple and deep navy, which are ideal for creating the trendy blue-based effect. Plus, the shimmering black shadow will add glitz and glamour to your look without appearing like you piled on the glitter.

I am totalling loving this new year look and the eyeshadows/palettes! I have decided that I am going to start to use eyeshadows so much more this year. Especially even more now with so many amazing beautiful looks on here and other makeup blogs I follow. On christmas eve I treated myself to 1 eyeshadow which was only £1 (well it was christmas the next day lol!) The eyeshadow is a gorgeous pigmented silver eyeshadow from a budget english makeup brand MUA which is amazing! It helped me to create my own novice slant of a smokey/silver christmas day look. Happy New Year, may it be filled with glamour & sparkles xxx

I've tried the Too Faced Palette at Sephora! It's great! But smoky eyes don't need to just be black and grey shades, I love purple smoky eyes!

I returned the Smashbox smokey palette, the colors are great but they dont go on smooth. I would try something less expensive like Urban Decay
