I have never been a fan of Red Bull or energy drinks in general other than coffee. I can’t stand the taste or the jittery feeling that makes me feel out of control with my body. I just want to feel awake and present.

One of my absolute favorite energy drinks is a homemade concoction that has very few calories, boosts my energy, and makes me feel and look better! The main ingredient I use? A teaspoon of raw, organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).

Now please don’t misunderstand me, I am not talking about the clear vinegar which holds no nutritional value compared to good ole’ ACV, which is made from fermented organic apples and loaded with enzymes, beneficial living bacteria, and nutrients. Health fanatics have used the underground staple for hundreds of years for medicinal purposes.

At first sniff, its sour smell will take you by surprise. The taste definitely takes some getting used to. Once you start to understand all its advantages, however, the drink might quickly become an addictive daily staple.

Here's a short list of all the benefits—are you convinced yet?

  • May improve bowel irregularity and decrease heartburn
  • Loaded with the mineral Potassium that is essential for the strengthening of bones and proper functioning of the nerves and digestive system
  • May improve joint pain and stiffness
  • May assist in weight loss by helping to break down fats in the body
  • May improve skin breakouts

Personally, I have noticed a difference in energy levels, bowel regularity, and skin clarity since taking a teaspoon of ACV daily. But please note—never take ACV directly! The acidity can erode the enamel of your teeth, so it must always be diluted in at least four to eight ounces of water before consuming. Here's the right way to try.

THE ACV DRINK RECIPE

  1. Eight ounces of cold still or sparkling water

  2. One to one and a half tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar

  3. A half packet of Stevia or a dash of liquid Stevia

  4. One or two ounces of grapefruit juice (or any juice of your liking)

  5. Throw some mint leaves, fresh ginger, or sliced fruit to make it more exciting and refreshing
