Hi Guys! I have been thinking a lot about going back to blonde lately especially since I am anxiously awaiting the warm weather and summer! My hair is currently black amd my natural color is light brown. Has anyone gone from black to blonde? And if so how was your experiance and how many times did you have to bleach your hair? I also hate the thought of frying my hair! Thanks!

My niece does a girls hair like this black to blonde and they put colors in it she said it has to process 3 times so its really difficult to get the black out.

I beleive black is as stubborn as red! I wish it was not so difficult, prcocessing the hair 3 times would fry it :( Thanks for the info Anna!

Black is very hard to get out of your hair, especially if you've dyed it multiple times (but even once is bad enough).

As a professional hairstylist, I've taken a girl from black back to a medium-light reddish brown the first time, but she had to wait a week to come back to do it again. I also went from a dark brown (most people thought it was black) to a medium blonde myself.

I would suggest doing it more slowly, why not start the lightening process by going back to a medium brown? Then after a month or so maybe go to a medium-light blonde (I'm not sure if you're wanting a darker blonde or platinum or where on the blonde scale you're wanting to be)? In the meantime, deep condition your hair at least once a week. Give it a cold rinse when getting out of the shower. Try not to over-process it with curling irons and flat irons and wait a day or two between washes. You have awhile before summer!

It's possible to go back blonde, but the smartest way is going to be to do it slowly and being as gentle to your hair as possible. Definitely not all in one day! At least give it a week between processes.

Thanks Sadie,
I am looking to go very light and will take it slow even though I am not a fan of medium brown hair on me :) I used to have platinum blonde hair and went to brown then to black. It sure was a lot easier to go the other way. Thanks again ladies :)

I agree with Sadie. As a hairdresser, I love when people try doing this kind of thing at home, because it means big money for me to fix it. However, you have to do it in steps, it's not an instant result. You may need to prepare yourself for losing some length due to damage as well. Bleach is damaging (any chemical on your hair is), but repeatedly doing it can really hurt it. I've seen many horrors from it, your hair won't fall out but it can (& will) break or get the texture of chewed gum (that's my favorite. Hair should not be mushy.) from overprocessing it.

How about doing an Ashy Brown base and some blonde highlights? And work your way to a full set of blonde locks.

My hair is naturally black, and I got my hair colored this past weekend to a Mocha Brown, and since my hair was it's natural color it took forever and a day for my hair to get a nice brown. I do have some "blonde" peek-a-boo highlights, and that took a littler longer than expected too.

Going from blonde to black can be tricky too. I had two tone hair a few years ago (blonde on top, brown on the bottom), my stylist had to put pigments back into my blonde hair, than colored it a dark brown.

I had black hair for 5 years, my natural color is dirty blonde. I wouldnt recommend going to blonde its very damaging I had to cut off 8 inches of hair off of my 10 inches of hair :[ That was a year ago and my hair is still short and it took about 8 months to get my hair healthy again. If your going to do this I would keep adding highlights in until you get your desired look.

Thank you so much guys! I do think that it is a good idea to go with a few higlights first to maybe add some dimention to my hair and not to damage it too much and eventually go blonder, I have really long hair that I love and I would def. be very upset if I lost the length. Thank you again to all for all of the suggestions!
