I've had a few of the more well known brands.
Chi- I didn't like it. It seems like it never got hot enough.
Cricket- I liked it okay. It did its job. I did have to section off my hair very well, but I have a LOT of hair.
GHD- my favorite straight iron, as far as performance. The downside? I had it for a year and got a short and since I didn't have my original sales receipt, they wouldn't warranty it.
Croc- I haven't owned one but my stylist used this brand on me most recently and it worked pretty well. She did blow my hair out pretty straight.
Baby bliss- I wasn't impressed

I recommend all Babyliss stylers, their straighteners are great! And their Root Boost!
