Hi! I am a new cosmetologist that is getting ready to begin the beauty industry. Any ideas how i can start building up my clientele and get my name out there? Help!
Word of mouth is so important!! Give your card to anyone who compliments you work, host a party for your friends and ask them to bring a friend you don't know, do everyone's make up, hand out your card, and do some kind of prize that gets someone in your chair. Like maybe "one free makeover with me at xxxxxx including:Xxxxxxx that expires:xxxxxxx" these are just two ideas, I'm sure there's tons of great ones out there, but the most important thing is to get the word out there and show off your work! (:
Omg! Hosting a party is a great idea and thanks! I have been doing word of mouth, giving out my business cards, offering my services to people, and creating a page on fb and through networking to get out there! Thanks again girl!
It has been really tough getting a job though. This career is very highly competitive and i'm just hanging in there and building up my portfolio and keep on practicing.
No problem! And it is very competitive, and with the economy the way it is, employers and consumers can choose to be extra picky. Often not only are they looking for the best at something, they're looking for the best, with loads of experience. I'm not a cosmetologist, so someone in that field might have more direct info, but Id think any job in the field would be beneficial to you right now. Maybe like an assistant, or a makeup counter? Good luck. (:
Yeah. I have been job shadowing at a barbershop for more experience on mens cuts since i barely did those in beauty school. I've applied at Sephora but they are looking for experience people. I'm sure something will pop up for me when it is the right time. I am my own boss as a hairstylist. It's not that easy building up clientele. It will take years!
