The only way to get rid of highlights is either having color put in or letting them grow out. Highlights are made using bleach. A deep cleansing shampoo won't do anything but dry out your hair in that case. You can't cleanse out bleach because it has already removed color. A deep cleansing shampoo would work on lowlights because those are created by adding hair color not removing it.

Yeah my hair stylist said that if I ever wanted to get rid of my highlights, then I'd have to grow it out.

You can have a professional repigment them and color over them or just let them grow out naturally. I agree with Claire B, a cleansing shampoo won't do anything to remove the highlights.

Go two shades darker and apply it twice. You'll also want to touch up the darker color until it grows out, as the bleach will start to show through depending on how thick the highlights are. Another way, would be to replace them with low lights and start to blend darker colors in over the previous ones. Either way, work with you hairdresser and condition it plenty!

I'd reccomended you get it repigmented professionally cos if you just go 2 shades darker it could come out quite flat, the undertones have been removed so you need to put them back in , if u are going to box colour be sure to go for a golden tone x

Great advice Debbie :) I'll have to try that next time! I always go two and two then get bored easily after but it works!
