Thinking of taking off a few inches? Before you get snipped, hairstylist, Jill Engelsen, from the Ted Gibson Salon in New York City shares which bob styles are the most flattering for different face shapes.
ASYMMETRICAL
Anyone can wear an asymmetrical crop because it is universally flattering. "A longer style like Jennifer Aniston's works perfectly because it softens her strong heart-shaped face," says Jill. Why? "The sleek simplicity of the face frame, along with the side-to-center zigzag part, really balances her overall look. Having the side part start at the arch of her brow gives her a strong angle toward the top of her head where she needs it."
LONG
The long bob can work on pretty much anyone, but it looks best on square and heart-shape faces because it softens the hard side angles. If your face is oval, like Emily Blunt’s, Jill suggests "fringe and some layers around the face to accentuate the cheekbones better."
SHAGGY & SHORT
"A shaggy, short bob like Dianna Agron's gives the illusion of a more square jawline on her heart-shaped face, which is a nice balance," says Jill. "However, the look really works best on oval to diamond-shaped faces."
EVEN AND ROUND
"Because the rounded shape of a bob like Olivia Munn's creates a circle, heart-shaped faces will look more balanced at the bottom," explains Jill. Those with a diamond-shaped face can also try this look, but keep the part to the side and add texture with waves to create more volume all over.
