The official history about the most important woman in
U.S. human rights diplomacy since Eleanor Roosevelt is the story
of the recommitment of a nation to its founding principles
________________
One of the heroines of the U.S. civil and human rights movements, often at great physical risk to herself, Patt was President Jimmy Carter's Assistant Secretary of State for Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs from 1977 to 1981. Her biography, tentatively called Healing Crusader: Patt Derian on the Arc of Civil and Human Rights, is based on hundreds of interviews and oral histories both in the United States and overseas, as well as scholarly studies, archival material, and declassified Federal and state documents. A modern Eleanor Roosevelt, who Patt was, the trials she faced, and the lasting contributions she made inside a male-dominated and stultified bureaucracy remain important lessons learned while facing today's critical national security and other challenges.
This work has been a long time in the making; the project completely self-funded. As Patt nears the end of her long and glorious life, I am seeking funding to complete the book by early 2016. It would be 40 years after Patt stared down Argentina’s generals and others like them who claimed to be our friends, but trample on their own peoples and the values we hold dear.
Please join me in becoming a part of the Healing Champion crusade.
