The best DIY I've seen is to put a pin you would use for keeping things together while sewing and stick the pointy end into a pencil's eraser. Very quick and cost less way to get a dotting tool!

Stick a straight pin (like the kind used for holding fabrics) and still it into an eraser on a pencil. Works exactly like a sitting tool and costs literally 10 cents.

I use a q tip and it works fine :) If not try any beauty supply store they sell them for under $10
