Beauty boxes are subscriptions like magazines in a way, some are monthly and other are not. They allow you to try new products based on certain questions asked at sign up to get to know your concerns/skin type etc. and cost a monthly fee of usually $10 and up. They are fun and broaden your horizons of products you may not normally purchase but get to try trial [and sometimes even deluxe] samples of in beauty boxes. I find the surprise factor of each box the most fun part because with many you never know what you will get unless you pick a subscription beauty box where you pick your own samples!

I have a subscription addiction and here are my summaries based on my opinions [obviously ;)
Birchbox has some neat things that you will enjoy but chances are wont ever be impressed enough to purchase
IPSY-is great, i love the fact that you also get a makeup bag every month more everyday items in this sub.
Cravebox-I enjoy and find things that I would purchase in almost every box
Julep-if you love doing your nails, thats the box for you!

I get Beauty Army, Ipsy, & Julep. I cancelled Birchbox.
BA is great because you get to pick your items.
Ipsy (formally MyGlam) is just ok. I get a lot of items that don't work with my skin tone but they are getting better so I'm hanging in.
Julep is nail polish and I'm in love with it. If you don't like the colors that month you can skip.
Birchbox was terrible. I could walk into Sephora and get better samples for free.

Glossy box, much more high end and just a better product assortment. Birchbox is half the price but it's just like paying for samples you don't want anyway.
