What are some things (if any) that I can do about my hormonal acne? You can't see it after I put on makeup but I'm very self conscious about my face without foundation. Please help?

I'm 18, I don't know if that makes a difference

Besides trying to drink more water hormonal acne can only be treated from within, like a pill or something.

For me, there is nothing I can do to prevent hormonal flare ups at that time of the month. so I just spot treat with turmeric, honey or clay. you can also look into drugstore brands for spot treatment.
maybe you could ask kitty or jacqlyn about prevention :)

Is it like constant flare ups or just that time of the month? Both can be hard to treat but if it's just that time of the month I've personally noticed a big difference if I use my Clarisonic and do a face mask every other day. That seems like a lot but I did it this month and I noticed I didn't get the usual breakouts I usually do. I am on prescription medicines for genetic acne but even with them I still had hormonal flare ups around that time. I would get the bad under the skin bumps and exfoliation is the only thing I have noticed helps a lot, that and keeping the pores as clear as possible. I used two different masks, Origins Clear Improvements and Freeman Dead Sea mineral anti stress mask. Both purge the pores. But that may not work for everyone, despite having acne my skin isn't super sensitive and loves exfoliation lol. But if the acne is consistent you may need to look into getting medical treatment. Either for the acne itself or to balance the hormones out and that will help calm the acne down. I have also heard of some herbal remedies that help balance out hormones around that time of the month and help PMS symptoms to not be so intense. I should have took a screenshot but I think the advice was from Kitty, Jacqlyn or Shelley lol. So maybe ask them too as others have already suggested :)

I use sulfur soap and that gets rid of most of my bacterial acne and also helps to shrink the hormonal acne and help it appear less red. You can also try to use a pore cleanser and just drink lots of water. Beyond that there is just nothing you can do. My derm told me that even acne creams and such are not helpful in getting rid of hormonal acne. That's because it's hormones. You can shrink it a bit and try to stop the redness but nothing is actually going to get rid of it completely.

I have terrible hormonal acne. Best thing to do is treat bacterial acne like Kendra said. That should at least help to reduce redness.

Please don't tell people that. You should not go on birth control simply to treat your acne or anything like that.
