To be honest, I've never been to Ulta but it seems sooooo nice! I heard they even have drugstore brands which I find to be mega-awesome. :) Yeah, I said it... Mega awesome ;) Hahaha. So, only speaking from visits and experience, I LOVE SEPHORA! <3

I prefer Ulta only because I can get my drugstore brands there as well as my higher end brands too. BUT Sephora has certain brands I can only get from there. Plus I enjoy the presentation and the $5-$10 little goodies they have while you're in line to buy stuff. If Ulta would have little samples/goodies I would run around spouting Ulta propaganda lol.

Both have a rewards system. Sephora's is a points based system and Ulta's is a How Much You Spent system which is essentially the same thing.

They're both really good places, but they're also different in some ways. I do not have an ULTA close by so whenever I go there, it's a "luxury" for me so I always buy as much stuff as I can. However, I prefer Sephora only because of familiarity. ULTA seems so close aisled.

I have to say Sephora - just because they exclusively carry MUFE.

Ulta has really good sales though - which isn't as often as Sephora would have.

Both are a really even split. I couldn't narrow it down so easily... =/

I like Sephora because they sell brands that Ulta doesn't, and I like that they have more exclusive products and sets and a better rewards program than Ulta.

But we only have an Ulta here but I love it too. And they have drugstore products too which is good.

Ulta for NYX, nail polishes & sales - Sephora for MUFE & OPI for Sephora & the Sephora brand.

I like Sephora because I can get brands like MUFE, NARS, Kat Von D, etc.. that Ulta doesn't carry.

But, I like Ulta because it carries drugstore AND highend... and hair products, and they have a hair salon too. Plus, I like Ulta's rewards system better. I feel like I'm getting more for my money. So, I guess Ulta wins for me! But, I shop them both often! :)

I think you're more likely to find bargains at ULTA but the sales associates at the one I like to go kill the experience- they're bored and pester you the entire time.

While the Sephora associates have been more annoying lately (I think they're trying to cut down on people five finger discounting), I prefer to shop here because they tend to carry more products per brand.

Ulta's reward system is good if you shop there often but I really like that the points you accumlate with Sephora don't expire.

Sephora. Even if Sephora was the same distance as Ulta (borderline out of my way) I would still choose Sephora. Yeah, Sephora does not have drugstore brands.. but I like going to the drugstore so really.. it does not affect me that much. AND I get better beauty rewards from CVS than I do from Ulta ANYWAY, so.. Sephora. Points do not expire and a much bigger selection of higher end brands. Maybe the rewards aren't as "grand" but I have been getting some pretty sweet 500 point packages when I choose to use it!

I like Sephora. For lots of reasons.

The shop and the website have a better aesthetic, in my opinion. Every time I've walked into an Ulta (including the flagship store), I feel like I'm in a Wal-Mart. It's messy and everything just looks cheap.

At Sephora, I can find things easily (maybe because the layout is consistent from shop to shop) and if I can't find something, one of the floor staff is right there to help, and I don't think they're annoying about it at all.

Sephora carries a better range of brands, especially as Soma pointed out, MUFE. I used to shop for it at Saks, but it mysteriously disappeared when the economic bubble burst.

i think i prefer sephora overall....but i do think ulta has a way better rewards system...and i love how you can buy haircare products and drugstore stuff there to reach your rewards more quickly.

Ulta! Sephora NEVER has any shipping deals other than free ship over $50! Right now Ulta is having free ship over $25! And they are constantly having $3.50 off, or $10 off, or $15 off! And they sell Essie! ^_^
