I have straight hair (on the thinner side), and I have been trying to achieve the beach-y wave look for quite sometime. I want to do this without heat (if possible). I have tried braiding... doent work great. I saw that there is an ad for TiGi Catwalk. I might look into that, but I dont know if it is meant for people that already have naturally wavy hair. If anyone has finally figured out how to do this... please share your knowledge. I want an easy way to do my hair without having to put my hair up in the dreaded pony-tail. Thanks!!!

Try braiding your hair when it's wet and letting it dry braided. That has worked for me.

I cant french braid... and normal braids dont look right when I take them out. I was hoping that there is a magic beach spray. Something that I can put in and scrunch... and blow dry for a few minutes. Thanks for the tip though!!

I've got just the solution! This may not be the healthiest thing for your hair but its fast and easy and with some heat protectant spray its all good! I got the bed head waver from ulta for like 20 bucks. It works so well and you can control how wavy you want it to be. Either really defined or the naturally wavy. Comes out looking fabulous. After waving I'd use some spray gel or some sea salt spray for the more beachy effect! Hope this helps!!

P.s. You dont have to apply the heat for long so it wont be damaging as well.

I own something like this (a different brand). I was kinda looking for an easy way. Curling, crimping... all of that takes time. I want something that I can do in a few minutes.

Try...a fish plait. I was able to do this after a couple of tries - it's a lot easier than it looks. The waves it gives you in the end are a lot better than what a french braid would do (not so crimped looking and more natural). You can also try twisting your hair in sections. There are many YouTube tutorials on different ways on achieving this look without the use of heat. You can also visit your local salon and ask for a body wave (not a perm) for some nice spirals. I had it done years ago and really loved the results. This will give your hair some texture and make it much easier to style.

I like to take an empty spray bottle, mix some sea salt, a few drops of heated coconut oil and sometimes an essential oil like lavender or orange. I find it works better if you shower, let your hair air dry (don't brush it straight when it's wet-a little messy is ok for this look anyway) and then apply the salt/oil combo once it's dry. If you use too much salt your hair will get crunchy so it might take a few attempts to get the mix how you want it. Cheap and easy way to get some beachy looking waves... that smell good too!

@angela... will this work if my hair has no curl or wave?

@Lerina... Im not good at braiding. I wish that I could do a fishtail. Too complicated for me. I highlight my hair so I wont do a 2nd process. Plus... I love my straight hair... I just want the option for waves.

you could use a straightener and choose only to do certain parts of your hair. you would have to take a strand and start like you would if you were curling it but only do a little section one way and then do it the opposite way. its pretty fast if you're going for the lose beach look. After thats done just take some texture cream and put it through your hair and shake it up so you can get a little lift in it too. My sister has thin straight hair and this is what i do for her

This might not work on you but I always put my hair into anywhere from 2 to 5 buns (normal or messy- either works) after I shower and before I go to bed. When I take them out, I always have nice waves. Sometimes there'll be weird bumps but that's nothing that a flat iron can't fix.

@kelsea... I have tried the buns a few times. It works ok, but it norally just looks messy. I was kind of hoping that there is a spray out there that I can use. Guess not:(

@Rachael... i forgot to say you have to mix the salt/oil with warm water : P UMMM it should work at least a little bit. I think if your hair is truly straight (so like no wave at all when you just let it air dry) you might not get get a lot of waves. Or it might just end up looking dry and frizzy : X Worth a try though! And a lot cheaper than buying a bunch of products?

I braid my hair at night while it's damp before I go to bed, I think braids make the best looking waves. I just take a couple sections of hair and braid it regularly, you should end up with 5 or more braids. I usually like the top layer looser (take more hair) and the bottom layer more tight and crimped. Give it a few tries, I can't ever seem to get the right technique to make the top of the hair look natural and blended though. Sometimes it turns out right and I just leave it down or sometimes the top just looks really weird so I gather it into a little poof. If that doesn't work for you than you can just keep it in a poof then brush it out a little and tie it in a high ponytail and that looks nice too. Hope this helped :)

I am going to have my friend french braid my hair tonight. (I cant do it myself.) I tried the pin curls the other night and my hair was extremely curly. I want beach waves not curl. So that is why I am going to try the french braid this time. Wish me luck!

Make sure your hair is damp when you do it and try putting a bit of gel in your hair before you are fixing to french braid it (I like Herbal Essences Totally Twisted gel), that's what I always do and the results are great. :)

should I do one french braid or 2?

You can also try doing 2 french twists on either side of your head! I can't really explain to you how to do it w/o demonstrating, but heres a good video that teaches you how to do it. It's really really simple.

Again, I would suggest doing it w/ damp hair and a little bit of gel :) Hope that helps!

I wouldn't suggest french braiding, I've tried it myself and it turned out kind of weird... regular braids are the way to go! :)

I think if you went with 1 french braid since there would be more hair in the braid it would be a lot looser and if you went with 2 it would be a lot tighter since you would have less hair in the braid...so it's whichever you prefer. :) I usually go w/ 2 but that's only bc I find it difficult to do 1 braid going down the back of my head on myself...if that makes sense haha :)

do a few simple braids when your hair is wet (towel dried) sleep on it the next morning you should have waves ;)

I dont see how regular braids will work... they start in the middle of your hair (not at the top like a french braid). Right now I have two in (on either side of my head). I did it with my hair damp and gel. I hope it works. If it works well then I will take a picture and post it here. GOD... I hope it does. I have to go to a party tomorrow late morning. I hope I dont have to re-wet my hair and start over. haha
