Hi everyone,

I've recently explored the art of contouring, and I really love what I see on makeup books, Youtube channels and blogs.

My question is - how do I make contouring easier on blemished skin? While I no longer have zits, I do have pitted scars and this makes my skin rather uneven. Primers can only do so much - even after applying, I can still see faint dents on my skin, if you would call them that.

Does anyone have any tips? Thanks so much!

If you have dents in your face there's no way to cover them up, I have acne scars. so I always apply is full coverage foundation then I contour. that way you can't see the acne scars and your contour can be visible.

Texture is something that cannot truly be changed with regular makeup, though depending on the technique and texture of products it can sometimes be diminished. It's all about the illusion of diffusing light & shadow.

Anything with a sheen or shine will highlight texture, so if you're contouring along an area that's uneven avoid products with glitter/shimmer/glow. It's also important to remember that a while a matte finish will not 'hide' the texture, it also won't draw additional attention. I hope that makes sense.

I also wanted to say that when it comes to these 'faint' imperfections, most people probably won't even notice them unless you bring it up. I've got large pores across my cheeks & nose, plus a few acne scars and I frequently get compliments on my skin when I'm at the counter or out & about. It's kind of weird to me, because I think I'm always looking at my skin like it's being reflected in a 10x magnification mirror. We're often our worst critics. ;]

Try Mederma for your pitted scars... I also cleanse w/ a Clarisonic, and it has dramatically reduced my pore size and helps the blood flow in my face to regenerate new skin faster.

As for contouring, I agree w/ Tamara - use a matte contour powder. My two favorites are MAC Harmony and Bare Minerals Faux Tan.  =)

Thanks everyone! This was really helpful and encouraging! :)

I shall stick to matte contour powders then, and also invest in a Clarisonic when the wallet permits. Soon!

No problem. Also, If you find that brush application for contouring still makes your scars apparent, you can always try airbrush makeup for contouring. You'll run a lesser risk of the makeup collecting in your scar, but then again... it is a hefty investment of money and time to perfect it.  =)
