foundation brush or makeup wedge?

brush, definitely. blends better, gives a more polished look and saves money in the long run because every sponge or wedge or anything i have ever used just soaked up at least half what i put on it and i would get like half a stroke in before the makeup just stopped dead right there. i really like sponges for blending though..

however if you can get a holda some nonlatex sponges they're definitely better.. or just wet one.. but i feel that if youre spending your $ on foundation, you might as well have it be applied nicely, right?

I prefer a brush also. I feel that my foundation just gets lost in the sponge. However, I do like the way that the foundation looks with the sponge as well. I think I am going to start trying differant types of brushes though. My current brush takes a long time to apply.

BOTH! I apply with a brush and blend with a sponge. It may seem time consuming to use both, but I actually find that it's faster and looks better. I can quickly and evenly distribute foundation with a brush without worrying that the product will be soaked up. A brush alone can be streaky or can't blend into smaller crevices like around your nose or under your lower lashes, so I follow-up with a sponge to blend. Sometimes I'll even use my fingers (clean of course) to spot apply and then blend with a sponge.

For brushes I use MAC 191, Sigma SS190 or Sonia Kashuk Flat top. For sponges I like Alcone's non-latex wedges or the beautyblender.

It's all up to personal preference. Use whatever you like! Both are cool with me but I find it easier to maintain a brush.

i think if you use a sponge right it can give you the same effect as a brush and you can still get that air brushed look but i feel that using a brush is easier because it doesn't soak up product and it's easier to blend. thats just my opinion hope it helps :)

I use the Sigma F50 (the more affordable version of the MAC 187..ish..) for stippling then soft blending. It really works for me but naturally many prefer the MAC but i know a fair few girls who rate the Sigma too :D It really gives a good airbrushed look using the "dabbing/stippling" application method but you know...i think I'll take some inspiration from you girls here that do blend with a wedge and try it out in my routine! Thanks!

When I first started using liquid foundation I used a stippling brush but now I am obsessed with my beauty blender. Gives me flawless coverage and I love how my foundation looks after my application. Doesn't soak up the product unlike the cheaper make up sponges. A little water and your good to go. I can't imagine going back to brushes.

Brushes (or, sometimes, my fingers). I tend to use the Sigma F60 (formerly SS190) to apply it, then use the F80 to buff it in. Sometimes I'll stipple it on with the F80.

I use a brush or fingers. I tend to do a lot of contouring/highlighting so I put on my ordinary foundation with my fingers and use a lighter foundation over my cheekbones and a little bit of a shade darker under. I use a foundation brush to apply the lightest application of those two colors (from the back of my hand).

@Linda D and Yasmin K. they have a version of the beauty blender sponge @ CVS for $10. I picked up one today and its great.

I personally only apply my foundation with a stipple brush. FOR ME - that works best to give me a really nice, airbrushed finish. I just think that makeup is an art, and with art you have to use the tools that YOU are comfortable with. I honestly do not believe there is a right way or a wrong way to do your makeup, as long as YOU are happy with it :)

I loooooove my beauty blender it does what some foundation brushes cant and mine has lasted forever, it out holds the sponge squares and round pads you can buy also.

I use brushes on clients but since i only use liquid foundation on the areas that need the extra coverage i use the beauty blender brush then a brush with my powder on top! ive been doing that for years now!

i use a brush for my foundation. my mac 109 brush (but it sheds so much!) or my stippling brush.

linda, oooh i wanna try the beauty blender. i'll check it out at sephora. here in vancouver we don't have cvs or target! boooooo........but we're finally getting target soon. i'll definitely check it out and see how i like it compared to using a brush for my foundation. always looking for that flawless look!

I think it depends on the foundation.

Right now I'm using mineral so yeah, no point discussing that.

But I love my chanel foundation and I use a foundation brush for that, but I use it with my moisturiser before to make sure it doesn't streak.

I used to use a sponge when I used maybeline mousse foundation and it worked better than a brush!

Do you have the beauty blender cleanser Betsy? It works great! I love that it has a pump. It doesn't remove all of the left over foundation on the sponge but I would say it does wash out about 85% of it. The color washes out too. Every time I clean mines I have a sink full of pink liquid. The sponge smells amazing after using the cleanser. I'll just keep on smelling mines when I am using it lol. Weird I know but it smells that great!

If i'm only doing one or two clients, I'll use a foundation brush (i'll bring two) or on myself of course. But say I'm doing a group of faces, like a bridal party, I definitely use sponge applicators for two reasons: 1) convenience and 2) sanitary purposes. IMO, they achieve the same results (you just have to know how to work them), but I'd be saving a hell of a lot of $$ if I just used my foundation brushes on myself or the one or two clients.
