What Age is Good for Makeup?

Considering that two of the top six ladies who competed in the NYX FACE Awards cosmetics are only 14 and 16, I think 12 is fine to start.

I start wearing makeup at I think 15 then I start seriously getting into makeup at 16 because that's when I started finding my true self and having the courage to stand up to what I believe in (creativity, inspirational and being somewhat different to what normal people here in Singapore would dare to wear). Even I start at quite a "old" age, I still get people saying I'm too young for makeup or wear too much makeup but they don't understand makeup is mainly worn to showcase our creativity and not only to "cover up" I mean, most girls are totally comfortable with no makeup on their faces going shopping but still wear those super cool makeup looks. So I never believe that there's such thing as "too much makeup" or "too young for makeup" as long as you take very good care of your skin! :) I would suggest you to lessen your makeup as much as possible because it's school and maybe some people in your school might be judgmental if you know what I mean. We're not allowed to wear makeup in middle school where I'm in haha, so I can't advice much on that but most importantly, do what makes you most happy. If that makes sense! I hope I helped.

I don't like when people put an 'age limit' on make-up. I think if it's something you want to do, it's your face and you should be able to do what you want with it. With that being said, however, I would make sure you want to wear it for the right reasons. For example, you want to conceal blemishes, you like make-up because you find creativity in it, or maybe you feel more confident with it. As opposed to only wearing it because other girls are. I started wearing make up when I started middle school and I noticed in each year book picture I was wearing less and it really didn't look very good with so much on. So my point is, wear it if you want to but wear it 'in moderation'.
Hope this helped. (:

im 13 turning 14 and i love to wear makeup to!
i would just lay off all of the face stuff like the concelars like i mean u can wear them just not all the time it make your skin go a lil uneven and since your about to go threw puverty it can make you brake out

stick to the eye stuff and only wear fake eyelashes on special occasions because they pull off your real ones (x

hope this helped

I really don't think makeup has an age, i began my self when i was 12. I just have one advice for you: Start out with a small amount, and when you get a little more used to it you can just wear more makeup.
If you love makeup, just do it, nobody will judge you. If you start now you'll probably be really good in a young age.
Good luck with the makeup!

I started with mascara and cheap eyeliner when I was about 13 and it wasn't till I was 14-16 till I started seriously wearing makeup ( foundation , blush , etc. ). So I would say 13 , it's early enough to develop your skills so you look fierce in highschool and college!

I don't want to sound like a mom but that seems like a lot of makeup for your age! you should probably wear less you have your entire life to look older. I would just say a little eyeliner if you really want to wear it. Don't get me wrong I love make up

i have to say that i disagree very strongly with middle schoolers wearing makeup. it makes them look so much older than they are and most of the time, when middle schoolers want to wear makeup, it's usually because of these reasons: other girls are, other girls are and people admire their appearances, other girls with some sort of social status (money, prominent family company, achievements of some sort, etc), the trend of dating in middle school, sexting... i've done a lot of research on how childhood is so sexualized and it becomes worse and worse with each generation; i mean look at the disney channel- no girl is going to be cast if she doesn't look like a supermodel. with the increased sexualization of childhood through near-constant exposure to media, i think that more girls feel pressure to be older, womanly, pretty/hot, etc or some variety or combination of all of these things... i'm digressing a bit but when i was in my tweens and teens, we didn't have as greatly accessible cheap beauty and fashion and a million venues on the internet to be exposed to the pressure of the right nails, hair, shoes, clothes, jewelry, muscles, tan, teeth, makeup-heck, even the boyfriend tag on youtube! it can be highly enjoyable and fun, but there's also the concept that with the internet and phones and everything, we are accessible to others of every second of the day, as are they to us. there's a lot of research on how just facebook photos make tweens and teens more self-conscious, so add youtube, beautylish, pinterest, twitter, instagram, etc and it just goes to show how high the bar is for what people like, frequent, and rate as the best. everything is about a rating, a view, popularity. it's not just who has the best dress at homecoming; it's now who has the best everything at every moment of the day. sure, there are millions of 10 and 11 year olds who are immune to this, but the vast majority aren't. this is why credit card debt and eating disorders are on the rise.
so, i digress. makeup on little girls is a no-no in my book, for the most part. i think it's fine at home, when out with the family, and on special occasions. if my daughter is ten and wants to do artistic and interesting makeup, she can, but if there's the slightest notion of it being about attractiveness, i would be extremely concerned. 10, 11, and 12 year olds are little girls.. 13 is a bit older, transitioning into adolescence. 14 is too young. if i absolutely had to put a number on it, i would say 15 is a young girl to start wearing a little makeup on a regular basis.

I personally don't think you're too young, but of course that's up to your parents to decide. The amount you're currently wearing sounds okay to me.

I think the age 15 is a great year to start with make-up. If you can wear it at a younger age I would go with tinted lip gloss, mascara and maybe eyeliner. I don't think a young girl with gorgeous skin should cover it up with heavy make-up.

I think you are very beautiful and you shouldn't wear any. The older you are, the better it is to start wearing makeup. You don't need all the chemicals covering your face and eyes at such a young age. The only thing I did when I was 14 was tweeze my eyebrows. That can make a very big difference :)

I think you can wear makeup at any age, as long as you do it in an age appropriate way. I think a lot of young girls like to experiment with makeup, and a little eyeshadow and mascara never hurt anyone. As far as a full face? Enjoy that young fresh skin while you can, no need to cover it all up if you don't have to.

I think it depends on what kind of make up your going to apply. Some eyeshadow that is very close to your complexion Is good for like 11-12 but when you wanna get into all of the other fun stuff I think you should be about 13.

Personally i think thats a lot for a 11 year old. Especially for going out. You have all your teen/adult life to cake it on dont be in a rush to look older :) trust me as a girl who has looked 4-5 years younger than my actual age i know how appealing it is. I started wearing real makeup at 13. Before then it was just lipgloss and bonnie bell chapstick. At 13 i wore mascara and lipgloss. In highschool i started wearing eyeliner and eyeshadow and foundation etc.
HOWEVER, i think at 11-12 playing around with makeup at home is great and fun! Do whatever suits your fancy just look like yourself when you go out and about and at school. Tinted moisturizer, mascara, and lipgloss is most appropriate for middle school and all you really need. Save the other stuff for high school. :)

It is great to start practicing with makeup at your age. My daughter started practicing about 12. She is now 16 and has learned so much from YouTube gurus. She has real talent for it. She could work as a makeup artist now. If it is something you really have a passion for, keep practicing! It is always best to stay with natural makeup for school, but you can do alot with naturals.

Personally I don't think it really matters. Of course there is a line, I don't think that elementary schoolers should be wearing makeup, that's just silly. But throughout 7th and 8th grade, I wore makeup sometimes, just eyeliner though, perhaps a few days before 8th grade ended I started to wear mascara and a little bit of shadow. I spent those years experimenting and steadying my hand. Now my makeup is a lot cleaner and less un-natural looking. Unless it's blue or something, but you know what I mean. Last year for 9th grade there was only one day I didn't wear makeup. Well then and midterms and finals, but as long as you want to, and your parents are okay with it, then feel free to express yourself! People wear different clothes, shoes, get piercings, get tattoos, draw, sing, write, makeup is no less of a medium to channel yourself into something tangible! I'm going to be a sophomore in high school next year, I have tons of friends (sophomore and older!) who haven't ever touched a drop of makeup, so don't feel pressured to wear it because of other people, do what you want! Good luck~
