To build a kit can also be expensive so look for make up shows in your area and imats 2013 they have one in NYC and la as well as London. You can get high end makeup for great prices and while your in Cosmo school you can apply for the Mac pro card and If you have a Sally's beauty supply near you they give you a student card as well . It takes awhile to build your kit bh cosmetics also has great inexpensive palettes but although drugstore products are great and a good mua can make anything work your customers want to pay for quality makeup so if your still using a lot of drugstore products make sure your prices are reasonable. Go to your local sephora or ultra they always have sales and buy one get one free and for foundation get the lightest shade a few in between and then the darkest Remeber you can always mix to create the color you need :)

Start networking on sites like this and model mayham to build your clientele and get your name out there. And school is not a requirement to be a mua but I would recommend Cosmo school. You will learn a lot more not just about applying makeup but also about the sanitary rules and regulations so you are well pre paired. More schooling is always a plus and looks good on your resume I would also take an esthetician course where I'm from the course is 3 months long and it will give you knowledge on skin care, makeup, waxing, bacteria and laser procedures. This will help you and give you a foot up on other mua. Make sure you build a portfolio and take quality pictures of your looks. Make simple business cards and post ads on sites like Craigslist, these are all things I did to get started about 6 months ago. Don't forget to take advantage of free websites like Facebook and if your not camera shy start a YouTube beauty channel:) hope I helped a little and good luck on your new career

i would suggest going to cosmotology school... you will learn the basics of all things involved in the beauty industry. You can then branch off into the area of which you are most passionate about.. while already being an educated industry professional.
