That used to happen to me all the time!! Always my middle fingers too! I started to take a very fine file and do a quick file over the whole nail just to make it a little rough but not enough to damage, then I put a coat of bond aid (picture) and then my polish. Ever since I started doing this it never happened again and my polish lasts a lot longer without chipping! I try to stay away from buffing because it makes my nails brittle and the smooth surface makes the polish feel right off!

Buff your nails. Nail polish often doesn't stay because your nails have oil on them (sounds weird, but it's true). Buffing your nails takes off the oily layer, and then it stays soooo much better. And, of course, use your top and base coat. And nail polish chips less on oval nails than square ones.

I've discovered a brand called sinful colorations which is just fantastic! My polish lasted for days. They have a wide & great selection of colors too.

Also wipe your nail with acetone before you polish to get all the oils off, it'll help it stick better

I did a base color like white to keep it from peeling.

I'm a huge fan of the Sally Hansen nail stickers. I think they look like nail polish and last a long time!

What nail polish brands are you using? You may need to try a different brand.

Honestly, I have the same issue with inexpensive brands. Even with a base and top coat. Buffing doesn't make a ton of difference for me, either; they all start to peel or chip after a couple of days. Then I tried an Illamasqua nail polish, and it didn't chip until five days later (otherwise, just minor tipwear).

I agree with Kasey, giving it that texture to grip to really does help the polish stay on. Also, make sure you're painting over the edge of your nails (if you can, if they're too short that's kinda tough) so it seals in the entire nail.

I find this only happens to me if my nail polish has the word diamond somewhere in the title.

Try lightly buffing your nails. Bear in mind that doing this too often can weaken your nails, but a light buff will give your nails a little grip for the polish.

Ugh, so annoying!!

Mine does the same thing! I've tried tons of top and base coats, but in the end it still just comes off in sheets.

It does not matter wether I use a top coat or if I use a base coat. Every time I polish my nails the polish just peels off usually in whole and always by the end of day one. What can I do to make my polish last?
