Whit-
I use professional hair shampoo to clean my make up brushes. I try to clean it at least once every week. I would recommend if you use your foundation brush daily it might be good to wash it every day.... :)

You should use a product such as "brush off" or an IPA alcohol and once the brush is damp rub on a tissue. you should do this until they are clean, and after EVERY use. For larger poof brushes that will drink this sort of product use a gentle baby shampoo and allow to dry naturally. you can also use the baby shampoo to soften the brushes once a week.
If you take good care of your brushes then they can last a lifetime and still be hygienic.
Remember germs and bacteria multiply quickly and if your brushes (especially eye ones) are not pristine you are at risk of infection.

I use baby shampoo most of the time. But once in a while ill use the antibacterial hand soap from bath and body works. Justice foaming one. It kills germs and it leaves the bristle smelling good. I wash my brushes about once every week and a half to two weeks, but I've got a few face brushes that I switch out. For eye brushes I just spot clean with Mac cleanser in between deep cleanings.

Mac brush cleaner is wonderful and in addition to that I use philosophy's purity from Sephora. The small bottle is $10.

Isopropyl alcohol works great on pesky products like foundation, lip tars and dark shadows. It also disinfects. For light cleaning I use brush cleaner or mild soap.

I personally love MAC's brush cleaner and after trying several different brands this is the one I swear by, I, like most clean my brushes weekly and as needed. I've never had to throw away or replace a brush ever, if you take proper care when cleaning them there's no reason to replace them unless you're just feeling like something new :)

My skin is very sensitive, so I clean my brushes after every use. I use a product called "the masters brush cleaner" which is made for artists brushes. Really any gentle face/body wash or shampoo will be fine. Before that I was using purity made simple.
You probably don't need to wash your eye brushes after every use, but maybe try washing what you use on your face. See if you break out les. Can't hurt to try.

it depends on what you feel that works for you...
I have used baby shampoo, a mix between olive oil liquid dish soap and shampoo, or regular shampoo...
Everyone has different things that work for them.
how often I agree once a week, but remember to spot clean them, I use 90% rubbing alcohol.

Hey Whit, I usually clean all my makeup brushes once a week because I use them all weekly. I also spot clean then with elfs daily brush cleaner which you can get from Target. You can use dish washing liquid with a small amount of coconut oil. Coconut oil is naturally a disinfectant and it is anti bacterial. Be careful though to not get too much oil in that mixture because it could ruin your brushes. Good luck!
