The only reason so many people trust Dr. Oz, IMO, is because of the Oprah Effect. (Also see Dr. Phil and (for a time) the authors of The Secret. Don't get me started on the latter. Seriously.) If Oprah endorses something, or a person, to those who hang on to her every word, it/zie must be good/legitimate/whatever.

Anyhoo. Another link about how you don't need an eye cream...

I've actually talked to SEVERAL dermatologists, and other doctors as well, about various skin issues due tommy own problems. This did come up and every single doctor I asked said that eye creams are way over hyped. A good moisturizer you would use all over your skin works just as well. They DO only technically thicken he cream for eyes and sometimes that can make the cream too rich which can lead to those little white bumps we sometimes see on the under eye skin. I've never use an eye cream, I'm 36 and still don't plan to use one.

I really don't trust Dr. Oz, like Christina said, a lot of the stuff he says doesn't really turn out to be true. I think people have kind of put him on a pedestal because "he's a doctor". If you have questions about skin care, go see a dermatologist.

Actually Beautylish even commented about this in one of their articles, not about Dr. Oz per se, but that eye creams are not really necessary. Especially if you have your HG (Holy Grail) moisturizer. They talked about, instead of spending extra money for eye creams, just use your HG moisturizer around your eyes. Mine's is CeraVe AM lotion, PM lotion or the moisturizing cream --- love it.

As for Dr. Oz, he sorta reminds me of Dr. Drew. Watching shows Dr. Drew is on -- 16 and Pregnant reunion, Celebrity Rehab -- he has said so many things that are proven wrong. I remember him saying that teenage moms will not go on to finish college, will be that or do that... it's like um hello, I'm already proof teenage moms can finish college and go on to be independent and make something of themselves. Sure, it was very hard (and I always lecture my son not to have kids at a young age due to the struggles and sacrifices you need to make), but it's possible. Now if Dr. Drew changed his tune to "It's a lot harder to do this or do that..." versus "It's impossible..." then maybe he would be more credible in my book.

Hmmm. I don't know. Just like many scams in the beauty industry- this could very well be true. Maybe we should all do a "trial" couple of weeks and just use our moisturizers around our eyes and see if there is any difference!?

I don't trust Dr. Oz...I've seen too many sketchy episodes. I would do more research online before chucking the eye creams ;)

Yeah Tania I think I have seen that too! Sorry Britt lol! It is sad but true, he also mentioned that you should avoid using creams with ethanol in it, so there you go :)

Dr. Oz is a quack. For example, he once had a doctor from India on and he was absolutely skeptical of the Indian doctor's methods to diagnose a patient despite the fact the method the Indian doctor used resulted in the SAME diagnosis as Dr. Oz! Dr. Oz was a jerk to the Indian doctor. YET this is the SAME guy who promote homeopathic remedies as cures to certain things.

Another thing that made me think he was a quack... He said that if you have a thyroid problem then you'll lose your eyebrow hair. The way he put it ruled out the fact that if you over-waxing or over-tweeze over the years that you destroy the hair bulb which of course means you won't grow the hair back. In his opinion it wasn't due to waxing or tweezing but rather you have a thyroid problem which in many women's cases is NOT the result of thin eyebrows.

My advise... talk to YOUR own doctor and don't listen to some medical quack on tv just because he was put on tv by Oprah!

INSANE. I did not know this. I guess I'm not going to use my eye cream anymore! :( I was thinking of purchasing the Simple Eye balm, too.

I believe I had seen another episode of Dr. Oz where the guest Dermatologist said eye creams are a waste of money because many of them have the same ingredients as the lotions you would purchase for your face, but they thicken the formula and charge you more for less product.

ouch...really?

Apparently you aren't meant to uses eye creams! According to Dr Oz it does terrible things to the rest of your skin and ages you more!
