I've been suffering from quite bad acne for a long, long time. I felt so ashamed about it that I even skipped school some days and locked myself in my room. So I know how it feels..

Here are some tips for you that helped improve my skin.
- Never use a thick foundation. Replace your foundation with a bb-cream or mineral foundation. Just doing that did wonders for my skin!
This prevents your pores clogging up and it lets your skin breathe.
- Use lemon or lime as a toner. This dries the spots out, but it can sting a bit.
- Mix seasalt with water, use this as a toner too. This gives your skin a boost. And, put some of the seasalt water in a spraybottle, and spray your pillow every night before you go to sleep. Your pillow will be packed with bacteria, and this will kill all the bad bacterias on you pillow.
- Drink as much water as you can, and always remove your makeup at night!
- And if you suffer from acne scaring, than i would recomend bio oil. (http://www.beautylish.com/p/bio-oil-bio-oil) Only put a tiny bit of this where the scaring is, and not all over your face. (could case more breakouts if you out this all over)

Hope these tips will work for you! Good luck! :)

You def need antibiotics to rid your face of the internal bacteria it's harboring. Get to a derm asap and within two weeks of taking the meds you will see a drastic difference! Good Luck!

@Karen Thanks for the pillow tip!

Karen's advice is really great! Also, my mother has acne and she wears Clinique makeup and uses their facial washes and her face has cleared up a lot tremendously.

Hi Mashell , All of the ladies above have great advice . I myself suffer from bad acne and the thing that saved me was the clarasonic mia .I noticed a diffrence in my skin within the 1st mnth of using it. I would recommend trying that out before going to a dermatologist .

Ive been trying to figure out how to take my acne away for years and ive finally found out a way. Buy the dermalogica acne set ( it comes with 5 things) only use the salicylic acid and the spot treatment! After i wash my face with loreal go 360 clean i dab on a little bit of salicylic acid on every pimple and places where i feel a new one coming and let that dry, afterwards i dab on a little bit of the spot treatment on each one. In the morning it reduces the size of pretty much everyone and takes the redness away!!! I just found it out. I would definetley try it out because i love my routine! :) good luck!

the best thing that worked for me to get a great complexion and banish spots entirely is nothing at all!!! i realised that the chemicals in the products i'm using to wash/moisturise my face is more harmful to my face than helpful. as soon as i stopped using them, my face become almost flawless. (you can check my pictures for results)
if you must use things like masks e.t.c., use natural ingredients!
good luck xx

I struggled with horrible acne untill I was 23. I tried anti biotics, retin A and accutane. Not to mention every over the counter product from proactive to that foam stuff to clearasil. I now have beautiful glowing skin and i NEVER break out anywhere. I stopped using anything that wasnt 100% natural or arganic. That meant no more "acne" products. I started using epicuren and dr bronners soaps. And i went on the dr perricone diet. I also highly recomend Sarah Mcnamara's Miracle Skin Treatment. It really helps heal your skin, its a nutrient rich bb cream. I hope any of this helps! Acne is so hard to deal with.

I suffered with severe acne for my first 2 years of University and i know how you feel. I decided to start going to a dermatologist and he has saved me! They will give you and consultation and prescribe you antibiotics or something more extreme. I was on acutane for 6 months and it saved my skin! They also do a blue laser treatements (depending where you go).

You need to clean from inside out. Get hold of pure aloe vera capsules. They will detox you inside and out. After taking them for about a week you will see everything coming out, and it will be out for good. From there treat the skin every night with Calamile lotion, and it will reduce redness and scarring over time. The lotion is like £2 in England. I know it works because i helped my friend clear her bad acne in like 2 months.

Hey Mashell! I came across your discussion and I couldn't help but make a post! For the past 3 or 4 years I had suffered from terrible acne, I'm probably over exaggerating but it was pretty bad. Today I have the skin I've always wanted and barely get a single break out. I've developed a sort of skin plan that I'll walk you through quickly.

Mornings:
Before you apply your makeup splash your face with cold water then dry. Do this 3 times. It will close your pores so they won't get clogged by the makeup and it will also help wake you up! I usually use a toner after this as well. Before I apply my make up however, I apply 3 layers of Aveno cream to hydrate my face. I wait for each layer to dry before applying another.

Nights:
I use dead sea acne clear face wash and I absolutely recommend it 100%. It really does help clear my face and it smells really nice! Anyway, after taking your makeup off and washing (any wash with beads will do as well, like morning burst) (also make sure you wash with warm water to open up your pores) I will sometimes also put on my dead sea face mask which really helps get any junk out of my pores, which will cause a break out or two but it is so worth it. If not I use the dead sea Night moisturizer cream. Every other night I will take rubbing alcohol and put it on a face wipe and rub it into my skin, it helps fight infection! I then use ozonol on any imperfections or breakouts I may have or feel coming on, I don't rub it in.

Also, if you eat junk, you will break out. You have to make sure to drink a lot of water and eat well. Since becoming a vegetarian even, I've noticed a difference. You can also take multi vitamins and zink! I recommend going to see a dermatologist about your skin as well as everyone's is different. Another thing, when buying any face products make sure there is no oil in it! This will make you break out for sure! Try going for mineralized makeup.

If you are staying at a friend's or are out late and don't want to wash your face try OXY pads. It will dry any imperfections that may come up over night but I don't recommend it for everyday use as it will make you skin dry. I hope this helped!

Marigolds. I used some natural marigold cream or a lotion.. And it helped me a lot. I would add a link of how it looks like, but I'm pretty sure it's not sold in your country, so..
But you should look for products with marigolds, I hope it helps, good luck.

Acne is the worst thing ever. Mine was about as bad as yours up until a few months ago. I went and got a microderm to get the dead skin off my face that was causing all the buildup. I thought I had oily/acne prone skin, but it turned out that it was in fact sensitivity to all the chemicals in acne medicines. So my esthetician gave me the Malibu Sensitive Skin facial cleanser and moisturizer. I went out and go t some 6% Benzoyl Peroxide cream for spot treatments, and my face hasn't looked this clean in years. Also, some of the DIY posts above are good ideas if you don't want to shell out $30 for a treatment. Hope it helps!

You can try slathering creams and serums all over your face, but my greatest advice is WATER. I used to suffer from acne, but then I started to drink lots of water and my skin was great! Radiant, hydrated, and smooth :) how much water should you drink? Take your weight, split it in half, and that's how many ounces you should drink. It works!
Hope this helped!
