My natural hair color is brown and I've had blonde highlights for over a year and I've never got my roots done after I got my highlights, I let them grow out for a year. They were halfway down my head and yesterday I went to the salon and dyed the blonde brown and now my hair is brown, it matches so perfectly you could never tell I had blonde highlights. My only concern is, how do I prevent the highlights from coming back and showing through? My friends have had blonde highlights and when they dyed their hair back to brown they showed through when they washed their hair. The lady at the salon told me they're not SUPPOSED to come back, which doesn't mean they're not going to. And she said I shouldn't wash my hair for a few days so it sets. So, how can I prevent my highlights from coming back as I have not washed it yet. Thank you!!

I also forgot to mention that she didn't use any foil or anything on my hair. I don't know how to explain what it was. It was syrupy and she put it on the button half of my hair and it took no more then 10 minutes and then she washed it out and it looks so good! I just don't want my blonde to come back. Thanks!!

Do you mean to say that all the dye that professionals do is permanent and will last? I didn't understand , sorry!

Unless you're doing something special a salon will use a permanent dye. so it shouldn't wash out to blonde. it may fade by a shade or two after a few months, depending on your hair, but that's it. try to avoid shampoos with sulfates to help color last in general.

I agree with the ladies, professional dye, done by a professional will definitely over power an at home box dye job.
& a color filler would have also helped. 👍
