Got Textured Skin?

I have dry, dehydrated mature textured skin. Kind of like orange peely skin. And no primer, pore filler or foundation has seemed to make a difference...until today.
Today, I tried something different. I first applied my Vitamin C serum, then my moisterizerizing sunscreen, then my primer, the usual routine I do. But what I did differently this time was to spray my setting spray ON TOP of my already absorbed in primer. Then, I let that set. THEN I applied my foundation, light powder and all the rest of my makeup. I lightly buffed out all hard edges to create that diffused, airbrushed look. Then, I applied my setting spray again as my last step. And I must say, that this method made a huge difference in smoothing my textured skin. My skin wasn't TOTALLY smooth, but I was able to achieve about a 75% improvement. I am thrilled and wanted to share this tip. Like all things, it may not work for everyone, since everyone uses different products and has different skin. But if you are struggling like I was, maybe give it a try. These are the products I used:
*Dr. Dennis Gross Firming Vitamin C Serum
*Josie Maran Argan Oil Moisterizing spf 47
*IT Cosmetics #50 Primer
*Cover Fx Illuminating Setting Spray
* Loreal Lumi & Loreal Infallible Glow foundations (mixed together).

Great tip, Marleen! I'm so happy you found something that works for you...especially since you used products you already had and loved.  :)

I also want to share what gave me the idea to try this. I do believe my primer is a decent primer for smoothing out my skin, although I know it isn't magical, I do see a difference. But, I was thinking that my foundation was "breaking down" my primer. So that's when I decided to try "setting" my primer to lock it on to the surface of my skin so my foundation wasn't able to break down the primer and thus making my foundation and primer sink into my pores and nooks and crannies of my textured skin and ultimately revealing making my textured skin.

Marleen, tried this with the Elf setting mist but didn't get the results I was hoping. But I definitely need to try again with a better setting mist like Urban Decay. The elf one is fine when I just like to spray after finishing my makeup but for actual setting my primer or makeup I think I'll have better results with a higher end mist. I agree that setting my primer will help my foundation look better. Sometimes I feel like my skin looks worse with foundation and I'm better off without it. Your thoughts on this make a lot of sense :)

Grace, Sorry it didnt work for you. I've tried that Elf Setting spray and didn't like it. It left my skin feeling tight, like I sprayed hairspray on my face. Maybe, that's why the foundation didn't sit well on it. Like I said, I have very dry, dehydrated skin, so I prefer no alcohol, hydrating setting sprays. I have the Cover Fx Illuminating and the Marc Jacobs Dew Drops. Both agree with my dry skin and don't make my skin feel lacquered. I think the Cover Fx is good for all skin types but the Dew Drops is way more hydrating, so that one is probably better for normal/dry to very dry skin. One tip is to make sure the setting spray has set & dried before foundation.

For textured skin you would want to add an acid to your skin care routine, Something like the Pixi Glow tonic, or The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7%, Lactic Acid 5 % or 10%. These will all up with cell turnover and with that the texture of your skin.

Danell, I'm already using several products (alternating nights) Sunday Riley Good Genes, Murad Rapid Lightening Serum and Differin. And also a Tata Harper Mask. I'm a work in progress.

Marleen, when you're running low on the Good Genes, you might want to try Lac-Hydrin 5, which is about $15 for a bottle and you need only a very small amount (like Good Genes). It's also 5% Lactic Acid at an optimal pH and pairs beautifully with dry skin, as it contains moisturizers. It's my favorite Lactic Acid given to me by my Derm ages ago. I've been using it since...forever.
I own Good Genes, but I still prefer the Lac-Hydrin 5.

You might like it to and save yourself quite a bit of cash. If you wanted to keep the Good Genes, you could include the Lac-Hydrin in your alternation...meaning you get longer use out of Good Genes. That's what I like to do then I just save so much money, but still get those tremendous results and the Lac-Hydrin5 saves me from so much dryness. :) Lifesaver!

Rozberry, thanks for the tip. Many years ago a pharmacist recommended Lack Hydrin for dry skin on my legs to prevent eczema breakouts but I didn't think it was recommended for the face.
