Mixing hair colors

Let's say I have a level 4 color and I really like the tone, but I think it is too dark. Can I mix it with a level 6-7 neutral color and get something that is the same tone but a lightened version? Will the end result be muddy and washed out looking?

You can not lighten dark hair. color can't lighten color. you would have to bleach it, and then apply the color you want

I would say that when the light hits it it will just give it a different tinge of colour? But not actually lighten it
