Question about toner

Color will not lift color, and since toner is essentially just semi permanent color, it's mechanism of action is that it deposits pigment. This way it counteracts any tones you may not like without affecting your hair level. Is this right?

Also, my hair was bleached. Roots went pale white to yellow and ends went orange because they had previous dye.

I applied box dye to my hair but I could not get rid of the orange no matter what. The only way to get rid of it is to use a dark box dye and I don't want to have to do that. My hair has red tones and reddish pink in it from dye, and I love having bright and warm tones as they flatter my skin. Orange however is very unflattering. I want a toner that will counteract the orange but leave the red and not make my hair cool or ashy.

I think a purple hair mask would do actually they are some natural shampoo and mask I don't remember the brand but ill search it up it doesn't , make your hair ashy or anything but it gets rid of orange tones.

I always thought of hair toner as a way to meld the dye colors with your natural hair colors - like it just tones down the dye color so it's not so intense - when I've had toner used on me it was usually to take the brassiness out of bleached hair so that it looked better with my naturally black hair - so I think if you use it then that is the effect that will result - it may not completely remove the orange but will probably make it less intense of a color - but I've also heard purple shampoo is also used to treat brassiness from bleached hair so that could work the same way.

And does order matter with toner? Does applying the toner after your color or before your color make a difference?
