Getting rid of glasses.

I started wearing glasses when I was eleven years old. I found it difficult to see what my teacher wrote on the blackboard. My first prescription was -0.5 and it increased every year. My glasses kept getting thicker.
Now, I have got a -7 and I find it difficult to do the day-to-day activities without a glass.
I am thinking about having a lasik surgery ( http://texaneyecare.com/procedures/lasik/ ) from Austin. I don't want to use glass again. They make me ugly. But, I am scared. I am new to laser procedures. Will it affect my health and do harm to my body? Please give some genuine replies and suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Leesha from xsparkage on YouTube just did a video about her lasik experience recently so I highly suggest checking that out (:

I agree with Alexis, and I can also say I had lasik myself. I no longer need glasses, but do have a prescription pair I use when I embroider or sew since my vision isn't as perfect as it initially was after the procedure. Talk with your eye doctor, but I would recommend it if you are a candidate for lasik.

First off, go do the free consultation. You may not be a candidate, the lower your prescription the more they may say no, plus it matters about your eye shape, age, lifestyle and several other factors. You don't want to hype yourself up and find out you're not a candidate.

After you go to your consultation, start researching. Watch videos of people's opinions, and look in to which type. I don't know them off heart what they are called but I know there are 3 different procedures, 2 are very common and the third is only for certain lifestyles. You will have to decide whether they will leave the wound open (it will give you better vision and lessen the need for glasses in the future, and will allow them to do touch ups, etc, but it's not good if you are into sports or swimming a lot as it leaves your eye vulnerable), and several other considerations. I would gather a list of questions and book another (usually free as well) consultation to ask all your questions to that particular surgeon as the answers may differ from the ones you read online.

I would also suggest doing a bit of research about what glasses shapes look best on you. Lasik doesn't always make it so you never need glasses again. Some people I know have gone 20 years without needing them and some start to need them for reading and detail work after a couple years. Glasses if picked correctly can enhance your beauty and make you feel cute. A lot of people use glasses as accessories if they have multiple pairs or no need for them. Michelle phan has a great video on this, and several other youtubers as well. You could also try contacts. I wear contacts on a daily basis and when I wear my glasses I actually really appreciate the way they make my face look put together without a ton of makeup, just because my glasses are very classic with a unique shape so it's eye catching and personally makes me feel like a sexy librarian lol. But I wear contacts almost every day and feel a lot more confident about myself. I've also been wearing glasses since second grade and I probably should have started earlier lol. I have a -8 prescription and I am saving for lasik when I am 22-25 so I know my vision won't change as much, but I truly believe that you should find a pair of glasses you love before, just in case you ever need them again or you aren't a good candidate right now.

I know this sounds odd but I would highly suggest trying eye exercises first. I know they really improved my mum's vision and I have done them just for a bit and my left eye went from -2.75 to -2 in about two weeks. The only trouble is that it's really hard to actually follow through with it, I haven't done them for the past 3 months even though I so want to continue but I can't find the patience atm. I know it sounds like something that wouldn't work but it might be worth a shot. :)
