dilute 50% alcohol and 50% water in a spray bottle. spray on a cloth a gently rub the plates and the residue will come off. do not put hairspray on before applying heat on your locks it will just evaporate on your tools and no hairspray on your hair :). have a nice day.

thx Alisa. yeah, it's that crazy "funk" stuff that's hard to get off :)

When it is warm, carefully, with a towel wipe it off. Use a bit of oil or something for stubborn "funk." When cool, spray with rubbing alcohol to sterilize if desired.

You take a paper towel, or washcloth, wet it with warm water, and clean the entire tool. It works great(;
