Nume straightener burned my hair off.

Hey everyone! So I had gotten the nume straightener and I noticed that it had burned off pieces of my hair off; where my ear is at and the top of my hair. Has anyone experienced this before with the brand? I've been curling my hair and straightening it for about 9 years and never experienced this before so I was pretty shocked and so sad.
