So I have dark brown hair and am looking to gradually lighten it. I want to try a shampoo that will lighten it. I heard the the John frieda go blonder shampoo will but that kind of scares me because my hair is so dark. does anyone have any experience on using a shampoo that fades hair color?

Shampoos for blondes are generally just purple toned to counteract brassiness that can occur in hair that has been processed to be blonde. They don't actually lighten the hair.
The only real way to lighten your naturally dark hair is by chemically processing it. Lightening hair involves removing the actual pigment from your hair, which alters its physical structure.

My natural color is dark blonde. I'm not trying to bleach it or strip it. I've gone blonde before by gradually doing it.

Hailey, upon looking at the John Frieda shampoo I see it contains lemon and chamomile, which are both used for lightening the hair. Everything I've read up on that though suggests it's not great for the follicle either, similar to bleach but less extreme. :/
