You can also use vaseline or pva glue as a barrier for nail polish getting on the skin.

Also when painting your dominant hand use the hand being painted to guide the polish rather than trying to guide the brush with your non-dominant one.

I use pva glue as a nail base for glitter polishes as it peels off instead of scrubbing
