I know this is kinda weird and gross but my underarms are dark brown. I exfoliate and shave and scrub and wash really well but it doesn't get any lighter. I've tried different diys and nothing works. What should I do?

Waxing is your best bet. I used to have dark underarms and waxing was the only thing that fixed it because it took the hair out from underneath the skin as well

Switch from shaving to waxing the underarms. They will be noticeably lighter after the second or third session. Continue to exfoliate. If you don't want to stop shaving make a paste using baking soda and hydrogen peroxide and use it twice a week for about three minutes per session.

Stop shaving, wax instead. Mix coconut oil and baking soda to make a scrub and use it twice a week.

I heard rubbing lime helps!

Also you should moisturize the area too.

Moisturizing your underarm seems like it would be bad for you Diana. I know from experience that since your underarms are already moist and warm, it is an incubator for bacteria and infections. Adding moisturizer to that seems like it would make it more likely to get infections.

Thanks guys! The only thing is is that I don't think it's hair. It's a little above where my hair is and it's just looks like blotchy. If I need to I'll post a pic tomorrow if you guys need to see it.

Hey Katie, its possible that its the skin in that area if yourr sure its not from shaving. I'm not sure what this is called but my bf also had dark armpits as well as his other joints and stuff where as mine are the same as my skin.

I have the same problem! I've tried this diy which consist of baking soda, lime, and a tiny drop of whitening tooth paste. Sounds weird but I have noticed a difference

Well I moisturize my underarms after I shave and it has helped with the darkness around my underarms so I'm just giving advice that has helped me - and underarms are not naturally moist or warm unless you are constantly sweating - they get dry like any other part of your skin and when you constantly shave and exfoliate they get even more dry - you can still apply deoderant after you moisturize - but keeping your skin moisturized is not an incubator for bacteria that I have experienced - I moisturize every inch of my body - and haven't experienced additional bacterial growth.

Anyways I haven't seen anything scientific to support the theory that moisturizing the area will cause bacterial growth - but here is an article that shows the reason for dark underarms and how to treat them - but they don't have any scientific sources cited so I'm not sure how accurate any of this information is: http://www.livestrong.com/article/135141-what-are-causes-dark-underarms/

Laser is your solution! Your underarms are dark due to ingrown hair, trust it'll fix your problem permanently 😉

Just be careful with lime, PLEASE-- if exposed to sunlight, lime can burn your skin. make sure if you use lime to lighten that you wash it off thoroughly and avoid sunbathing for a bit
