The title says it all. I'm 22 and I just moisturize every day and night, exfoliate and do a face mask once or twice week. I feel like a need to find better productsor a better routine! My skin is oily and my main concerns are blackheads and huuge pores! what ingredients should I look for in products? or what kind of products should I invest in? I'll insert a picture of my face.

I'm not one to be giving skincare advice because I don't really know what I'm doing myself so I'll just list my routine 😄

Morning:
Clinique liquid face soap
Garnier clearly brighter daily moisturizer (has 15 SPF)

Night:
Clarisonic Mia
Clinique liquid face soap
Clinique clarifying lotion (toner)
Clinique dramatically different lotion

I have normal to oily skin and my skincare routine is what really helped get my skin to be much more normal rather than oily. I also have hyper pigmentation an the occasional breakout.

Morning:
-splash of water
-Pixi Glow Tonic
-Ole Henkrisen Truth Serum
-Garnier SkinActive Clearly Brighter Moisturizer

Night:
-Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil (to remove makeup)
-Origins Checks & Balances Frothy Face Wash
-Clarisonic Mia 1
-Boscia Exfoliating Peel Gel
-No7 Beautiful Skin Toner for normal/oily skin
-Ole Henriksen Sheer Transformation Moisturizer (this has changed recently as I'm trying new nighttime moisturizers)

My skin is very oily I've been switching around products but overall keep it fairly simple.

At night I use
-Cetaphil cleanser

- Tretinoin gel (you can start with the Retinol Brand retinol serum which works well)

-use a salicylic acid product for blackheads. I've been using the Clean & Clear Advantage Mark treatment. I apply it on my nose but avoid moisturizer on my nose since the product tends to ball up

-sometimes I'll use aloe Vera gel if I don't need much moisturizer or I'll use cerave if my skin is peeling a little from tretinoin.

In the morning I just rinse my face with some water or use a cleansing wipe and then put on a moisturizer that has sunscreen. I've been using the Neutrogena visibly even daily moisturizer with SPF30.
It's quite hydrating but it's not greasy which is nice and I did notice my skin looks more even. I've used this product on an off for a few years I'm just not that fond of the smell of it

Oh, and I use olive oil to massage my makeup off then a baby wipe to wipe it off before I cleanse my face.

I like most of your girls here am no skin care expert, but here is what I do/use

Morning
Homemade foaming face wash
Burts Bees Rosewater Toner

Night
Coconut oil (to remove makeup)
Same face wash as morning
Same Toner
Jason Vitamin E moisterizer( I think that's what it's called)

Weekly
Wash
Exfoliate
Tone
Moisterize

I have a very similar problem/skin type as you
My nose is also a main problem area. This has helped my skin dramatically, even though I just started this like 2-3 weeks ago
Once again I am no skin care expert in any way shape or form. 😊hope this helped

I forgot to mention I also love the GlamGlow SuperMud mask, I got a sample in one of my beauty box subscriptions and I loved it so I'll definitely be buying the full size. A similar mask that I also love is the Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask.

I have far different skin care needs than you do because I'm 37 and am seeing the early signs of aging. I have normal skin that gets a bit oily in the T-zone. My routine, if you even want to call it a routine, consists of the following:

Morning
Garnier Micellar Water
Olay Regenerist Microsculpting Cream for moisturizer

Night
Johnsons Baby Wash
Garnier Micellar Water
Vitamin C serum that I make myself
Olay Regenerist Microsculpting Cream

Twice Weekly
Exfoliate (usually with just a washcloth, sometimes I make a sugar scrub)
Face mask - either Clarisea Deep Pore Detox Activated Charcoal Exfoliating Mask, Soo AE Vitamin C Collagen Essence sheet mask, or Epice Hydrating Mask.

One thing I want to point out though is that you mentioned that you are concerned about blackheads. What most people (as in, the vast overwhelming majority) consider to be blackheads are actually sebaceous filaments and there is an ocean of difference between the two.

A blackhead is a large clogged pore that turns black/dark at the top layer due to oxidation. They usually have to be treated by a dermatologist.

Sebaceous filaments are the tiny, pin-size black dots that are generally seen on and around the nose, center of the forehead, and chin. Almost everyone has them and they are not an abnormality.

Here is where it is important to know the difference. Because sebaceous filaments are perfectly normal and almost universal among mature human skin, there is no way to get rid of them. Yes, they can be forcibly ripped out of the pores but this is a temporary measure that lasts no longer than thirty days. The pore will refill with sebum (and other materials) just like it's supposed to and your SFs will reappear.
What's worse is that sebum plays a vital role in skin health, protecting the skin from bacterial, fungal, and viral infections by acting as a barrier against microbes that will try to enter through an open pore. So by ripping out your sebaceous filaments, you are leaving that area of the skin vulnerable to all kinds of infections.

The cosmetic industry has made a fortune by the misrepresentation of this natural occurrence, calling sebaceous filaments "blackheads" and offering OTC treatments for them such as pore strips and harsh face washes. All consumers who are concerned about this particular condition need to be aware of what is actually going on with their face, what can and cannot be done for it, and what the associated risks of using certain products are. Not to mention that they are a complete waste of money.

Just wanted to share that with everyone who's mentioned problems with "blackheads". It's cheaper, safer, and healthier for your skin to just cover it with makeup if it bothers you.

I'm 26, quite oily, and would consider myself acne prone even though I've essentially eliminated my chronic acne issues and get only the very rare spot. My routine may seem excessive, but my skin is pretty sensitive/finicky and I basically started from the ground up to get all this worked in.

Morning:

- Olay Gentle Clean Foaming Face Wash with a microfiber cloth to buff away dead skin
- Paula's Choice Clear Acne Body Spray 2% Salicylic Acid (I use it on my face), left on while I do other things to get ready for work
- Paula's Choice Resist Toner
- Green Leaf Naturals Aloe Vera Gel (purchased on Amazon)
- Olay Regenerist Serum Fragrance Free
- Add a few drops of Paula's Choice Niacinimide Booster to Olay Serum before application all over my face
- Banana Boat Kids SPF 50 sunscreen lotion for my neck, chest, arms
- Paula's Choice Calm SPF 30 for Dry Skin under my eyes and any random dry patches
- Paula's Choice Resist Super Light SPF 30 all over my face, including under my eyes on top of the previous sunscreen

Night:

- Aveeno Fragrance Free Body Wash lathered up and massaged over dry face for a few seconds to get oil/grime layer off
- Olay Gentle Clean Foaming Face Wash
- Paula's Choice 5% Benzoyl Peroxide left on all over my face for 30+ minutes (BP does not need to be on your face all night to get most of the benefit and I'm sensitive to it)
- Rinse face
- Paula's Choice Resist Toner
- Paula's Choice Clear Acne Body Spray 2% Salicylic Acid
- Whatever retinol product I'm currently trying out (usually taken under the eyes if I've adjusted well to it)
- Olay Regenerist Serum Fragrance Free (about 3-4 pumps)
- Supplement serum with a dab of raw, unfiltered honey before application all over my face. The brand I use is called Desert Creek (purchased on Amazon)
- Cerave PM Moisturizer mixed with another dab of honey for my eyes/neck

I agree with Cara... I thought my nose was full of tiny blackheads before realizing that they are sebaceous filaments and I can't do much about them.
I love reading everyones skincare routine. will post mine soon too.

btw Cara you don't look a day over 25!!

For my skincare routine I use Mary Kay Clearproof Acne Wash; once in the morning and once at night. I have combination dry/oily skin, but it has become more normal since I've been using the Mary Kay. Also I have reduced amounts of pores, and my skin is much more lifted and smooth than it used to be when I was using Proactiv. (I feel Proactiv didnt clear my skin that well and was very harsh.)

I also struggle with oily skin but not excessive break outs, so my routine doesn't consist of a lot. Also all of my stuff is currently from Image because I fell in love with it during school.

Day time-
I wash with my Ormedic cleanser from Image. Ormedic is a very balancing and nourishing line so I find it best to use in the mornings.
Then I apply my SPF. I do not apply a moisturizer because the SPF is already moisturizing.

Night time-
I double cleanse with my Ageless cleanser from Image. This contains glycolic acid and salicylic acid so it provides a good, deep cleanse.
Next I apply my Ormedic serum (again, balancing and nourishing)

Three times a week, I either do an enzyme mask from Image's Vital C line, or I do the Ageless resurfacing mask.

I use to have the same skin problems as you oily skin large pores and blackheads what I did is not splurge on a clarasonic but just a spinning brush do really deep clean your skin and use it every single night and trust me you will notice a change my pores have visibly reduce size from XL pores to S pores and when I add a pore minimizing primer before applying makeup you might imagine how my skin looks trust me! And for oily skin I know it sounds crazy but add face oil to your skin after moisturizer every night I personally use the Josie matan argan oil and by doing that you are telling your skin you are applying oil so don't produce anymore and after you do face masks you might notice your skin feeling tight and maybe you say oh my skin needs no hydration/ moisturizer but in reality you do!! Because your skin will say OMG am dry lets produce more oil
Anyway I hope this truly helps and trust me it works

Wow I'm glad I posted this cause I never thought I would have so much good feedback! I'm loving reading all your ladies skincare :)
Cara G. great input on that subject! never really thought about that, and I think that subject needs its own topic.
Melissa M., I've actually been thinking about getting one (a spinning brush)! do you use it everyday? and with what products?
Also, is it safe using argan oil (made for your hair) on your skin?
Thank you!! I'm tanking my notes

Sep 28, 2016

Leuca S.

Argan oil contains a lot of beneficial compounds for the skin, but your results may vary depending on your skin type. At least rest assured that it doesn't contain fragrant compounds that are irritating.

Sep 28, 2016

Honey E.

I would suggest getting some specifically for skin though, instead of using the stuff for your hair. It would probably contain ingredients that wouldn't be good for your skin.

Sep 28, 2016

Melissa M.

Yes I use it everyday ( spinning brush) and no there are products that contain Aragon oil that it's specifically for your hair but the oil I use is from Josie maran and that is meant to use for Yes Hair as well as cuticles and skin. I was reading it also helps with fine lines

Here are some tips for maintaining a healthy skin:

Use sunscreen at all times when you step out to the sun
Avoid smoking - it makes your skin look older and depletes the skin of oxygen and nutrients that are essential for a good and healthy skin
