Beauty Product Reviews

Favourite contouring product!

I spent quite some time searching for the right contour powder for my face, and most have showed up far too warm on my cool toned, fair skin to mimic shadows. I always knew about the the Kevyn Aucoin Sculpting Powder but I was apprehensive about purchasing as it can look quite dark in photos and there’s no KA counter where I live for me to have tested it. After much deliberation I bit the bullet and I am so glad I did. This is a beautiful, completely matte contour powder that has very grey undertones with no orange that I can see. As such, it does a great job at mimicking shadows and also doesn’t appear muddy! I find the powder to be extremely pigmented, so the size of the product isn’t such an issue for me since I need so little to achieve my desired effect. It’s very easy to blend to a more subtle contour as its so finely milled and soft, however this does seem to make it kick up a bit of powder when I dip my brush in - which is about the only con I can think of for this sculpting powder. Its a con I don’t mind very much though, considering how great it is otherwise! I would highly recommend this powder, particularly for people with fair cool toned skin that are going for a sculpted look, rather than a bronzed one!

Versatile & fantastic for sensitive eyes!

I have extremely sensitive skin around my eyes and I often chose not to wear eyeshadow because I couldn’t be bothered with the irritation that I got from using brushes like my MAC 217. After using Wayne Goss eye brushes for a while now, I will be passing my other brushes on to friends with less sensitive eyes. The Wayne Goss brushes are extremely soft and now I wear eyeshadow whenever I wear makeup, which makes me very happy. Brush 06 is my favourite of the eye brushes I have. Its a higher quality version of the MAC 217, works better overall, is far softer, washes nicely, and as a low-key goth I prefer the all black handles! It’s the most versatile eye brush I’ve owned, as its fantastic at packing on colour, horizontally it deposits colour in the crease really well and I can even do a cut crease with it, vertically it blends like a dream, and I have also used it to set my under eye concealer, all with no irritation at any stage! It’s a really great brush that I fully recommend and I want multiples so I don’t have to clean it as much!

I'm a convert!

I have reasonably long eyelashes, but they are dead straight to the point of almost being downturned. For the longest time I refused to believe that there was any difference between eyelash curlers and an inexpensive one would do just as good a job as any other. I also spent this time being quite disappointed in eyelash curlers, they never fit around my eye well, created a kink in my lashes rather than a curl (despite me moving and pumping the curler up the length of my lashes) and the kink never remained anyway! After listening to many people tell me that there IS a difference, I finally caved and bought the Kevyn Aucoin one and I absolutely confer that its true - and its all in the pads! The KA curler has a large, rounded, bouncing but still firm pad that seems to prevent the kink from happening. I pump the curler and move it up the length of my lashes and I’m left with a fantastic curl that actually holds. When I’m not wearing makeup I’ll often curl my lashes to lift my eyes, and it lasts all day! Its also nicely rounded which suits my eye shape and prevents pinching. I really can’t imagine going back to another curler now!

Almost perfect!

The best thing about this foundation is that it always looks like skin! It's a medium coverage for my skin (I have a lot of hyper pigmentation and it does a reasonable job at covering it) that's somewhat buildable, and it has what I consider a natural looking satin finish. I feel its best applied with fingers, and it blends out nicely. I've tried around 20 foundations in the past few years to try and find one that is cruelty free and works well for my problematic skin, and Cover Expert is one of maybe 3 that doesn't separate on my skin after a few hours. It does get a bit of a sheen as the day goes on but its easily taken down with a bit of translucent powder. Otherwise it always looks smooth and doesn't settle into any of my fine lines. The one downside for me is that its quite strongly fragranced, and while its a nice rose scent, my skin HATES fragrance. As such I only get to wear it occasionally, which is a real shame because apart from that I think its a fantastic foundation, easily one of the best I've ever tried.

Perfect blush brush for pale faces!

If you're super pale like me, you know the struggle of trying to apply your blush without ending up looking like a clown. Before I bought this brush I had basically given up on using most of my blushes because I could just never get them to look right on my face - too much pigment and/or too concentrated in one area. With this brush, however, I can get my blush to look perfect. Because it's a long, flexible and fluffy brush, I can lightly tap it in the pan and pick up the smallest amount of product, then I can sweep it over my cheeks and because its fluffy and flexible, the bristles spread out over my cheeks giving a lovely diffused wash of colour. Since having this brush, I don't feel like I've over applied my blush at all and it never ends up all in one spot. The brush applies the colour so softly I don't feel the need to blend like crazy either. I plan on purchasing more of these for my different colour families of blush because its that perfect!
