re-release is shiny lacquered and not matte! So much better!

So I've been on a brush buying hiatus since jan 2016 and naturally missed out on a ton of limited editions releases. One that I've always regretted not buying was Chikuhodo's year of the pig lunar new year brush. After its release in 2019, the company switched to shiny lacquered handles as opposed to the matte finish the year of the pig had.

When they re-released the older series along with the year of the tiger I already mentally prepared myself to see the matte finish even though I prefer the shiny lacquered handles. Can you believe my surprise when I opened my package to see that the handle is NOT matte but shiny. IT'S SO CUTE. I'm so happy and its such a nice surprise. UGH. I'm glad I stuck with my gut instead of going for the rat, ox, or tiger. These versions are cute too but the pig version really spoke to me.

The only brush I can compare this to is my Chikuhodo MK-2 purchased in 2015. (I dont have any other big powder brushes from Chikuhodo) The handle + ferrule on the YOT pig brush is longer...so the brush is ever so slightly taller than my MK-2. The hair length is a little shorter, ferrule more oval, and area much smaller. It's different enough to justify adding it to my collection while also keeping the same softness of the hairs. I love it so much! I wish I could justify getting the others in the LNY series but it seems like among the line the brushes are the same except for the handles.

I for one LOVE perfectly round fluffy brushes. This brush is that said brush. It's ridiculously soft for a goat haired brush and the ferrule is perfectly round. After washing it gets even bigger, softer, and fluffier. It's so beautiful and yet functional. It is awesome at picking up product and could be used for any type of blush (powder, cream, cream-to-powder, etc). I love this thing. I may just buy another one.
