Beauty Product Reviews

Lower quality than I expected from Chikuhodo

The good: the design is gorgeous, and the hair is top notch. The cheek and powder brushes are a great size and the perfect density. The bad: Unfortunately the plastic handles feel very cheap and rattle around while I'm using them. They're really lightweight and feel unbalanced in the hand. As for the eye brush, the shape and size aren't nearly versatile enough for a travel brush. It's good at laying down an all over color, but it's too big for detail work, and too stiff for blending.

I've been incredibly pleased with all my other Chikuhodo brushes, including the 2015 Beautylish Sakura collab, but these just don't measure up in quality.

Perfect for collectors

The brushes are gorgeous - the hair is evenly bundled and the brush heads are perfectly shaped. I was concerned that the dyed saikoho ones might be rough, but they all feel silky smooth. I also love that the shapes and sizes aren't the same thing you see in practically ever other brush set under the sun. The handles are a bit wider than I'm used to, but still light and well-balanced.

All around good set

I was really excited to get this set, and I wasn't disappointed. With the exception of the pencil brush (which is too stiff to be used as an eye brush IMO - better for lipstick), all of the brushes are super soft. The squirrel hair picks up a deposits a light layer of product, so these may not be the best for products that have poor pigmentation or a hard texture. To be incredibly nit picky, there are a couple places where they could have taken more care in manufacturing. The shader brush has a few hairs that stick out from the rest of the brush head, and there are some glitter particles under the lacquer on the handle from the makie design. Considering the low price compared to most other Chikuhodo squirrel brushes, I'm ok with that.
