Katniss Everdeen Presidential Ball
Katniss Everdeen's makeup at the Presidential Ball in Hunger Games: Catching Fire!
STEP 1: Begin by looking ratchet as h*ll, but with your skin nice and clean!
STEP 2: Apply a good foundation, suited to your skin. I used ELF Flawless Finish Foundation. I applied it literally everywhere on my face; lips, eyelids, brows, the whole shebang.I kinda look like I oompaloompa spray tanned, but it actually looks natural later on. Apply your powder. I used ELF Studio HD Powder. (I used the white powder as it should be better for pictures that the yellow or pink.) Try pressing your hands firmly to your face to set it once applied.
STEP 3: Prime yo' eyelids! If you've never used eyelid primer before, it's a great ($1 from ELF, in Champagne) investment. Gives your eyeshadow something to grab onto, and lightens up your lid to give your colors a chance to pop!
STEP 4: Add your base color, a ruby-red, to the lid and barely above the crease. Keep the base low toward your inner corner, then expand upward a bit toward the outer corner. Blend it out to make it seem a bit softer.
STEP 5: Apply your liner. I actually successfully applied Gel liner (again, from ELF in the darkest black they had available) by using short, cautious strokes on my top lid. Don't start at the very inner corner at the top, start 1/4 of the way inside. Make the line somewhat thick, but not overbearing. Do a skinny wing-tip off of your lid from the outer corner. Try keeping the wing-tip just below the ruby-red base shadow.
STEP 6: Use a white (or in my case, a very light pink) shadow to apply a small line just below your wing-tip from the outer corner of your eye to the edge of your wing-tip. It may take MANY layers of shadow, or a moist brush, to get the white to really stand out! You can also apply a pale beige near your inner corner and softly draw it upward, lining below your brow, to create a highlight. I used a shimmer gel (ELF) over the white line to make it pop more!
STEP 7: Apply a pencil-based eyeliner (used a CoverGirl Perfect Point in Onyx) to your lower lid's waterline. Extend it past the outer corner, keeping the line just below our white shadow. Be sure you don't connect this lower line to your upper lid's wing-tip. Touch up your ruby-red base as needed, so it's as vibrant as possible!
STEP 8: Apply mascara to the top lashes only! (ELF again, cheap but effective!) Leave those lower lashes au naturale! With your top lashes, if you can see your skin, carefully apply some pencil liner to those areas, to create a cohesive dark upper-lid line.
STEP 9: Apply blush (ELF) in a very VERY subdued pink, almost natural tone. Be sure to add it quite low, in the hollow of your cheeks. However, do not let the blush touch your jawline. Possibly add more foundation to your lips, blot, and add a nude lipgloss (ELF). You should end up with something resembling picture 9 as your final result! Enjoy!
This is actually a very nice look for ladies who wear glasses and don't want to go color-crazy! (see additional picture) There's also a photo of my makeup arsenal coming soon, and I will add to the Products Used section once I find everything I used again.
