This photo doesn't really seem to do the colors justice. It's hard to see the pink at the base...but hey, I think it still came out pretty good. This is my second attempt at doing gradient nails and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it!

The bright pink and yellow I used originally made me think of a summery lemonade...but, it turned out more like a sunset. I'll have to try a new lemonade-inspired look.

I've tried it two different ways so far.

The first time (which resulted in the blue/pink gradient I have posted on my profile), I painted the pink directly on my nail, let it dry, then painted the blue also directly on my nail, then tried to stipple the blue with a makeup sponge.

But my second attempt (this one), I think worked much better. I painted a strip of yellow and a strip of pink on a palette (in my case, a plastic bag, lol), mixed them a bit in the center with my dotting tool, pressed the makeup sponge into it and sponged it onto my nail from there, one very thin layer at a time (making sure each layer is completely dry before moving on to the next).

I think the second method works a lot better, mostly because it forces you to do it in many transparent layers, which ends up making it look more blendy. ^.^

One more difference: the first time, I only used a clear base coat...but the second time, I painted my nails white first. ^.^
