I Tried Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Freeze—Here’s How It Holds Up 

As someone with thick, wiry eyebrows, finding a brow gel that lasts has been a struggle. Many brow gels fill, fluff, and groom just fine, but the hold is always lacking for my unruly brow hairs—like a sleep-deprived toddler, it’s their way or the highway. Even the soap brow hack couldn’t keep my stubborn hairs in place for more than an hour. So when I saw that Anastasia Beverly Hills had launched an “extreme-hold brow wax” called Brow Freeze, I jumped at the chance to take it for a spin.

Brow Freeze is a solid, crystal-clear wax that Anastasia Beverly Hills says has its “strongest hold yet.” At first touch, it feels firm and tacky, but it dries down to a natural, non-sticky finish on brows. Unlike soap, you don’t need water to activate it—just apply with a spoolie for the kind of fluffy, feathered brows you’re used to seeing all over Instagram.

The result? Feathery, fluffed-up brows.

After a few practice runs, I discovered that scraping off a tiny bit of Brow Freeze with a spoolie and working it back and forth on the inside of the cap (or another flat surface) gave me the most natural-looking result. With the product evenly coating my spoolie (I used Wayne Goss Brush 23), I was able to shape and sculpt my brows exactly where I wanted them—the formula gives you a bit of working time before it dries down. Once it sets, it’s set for good; the hold is no joke.

Six hours later, my brows were just about as fluffy, feathery, and lifted as they were when I first applied.

The Hot Take

Thanks to its intense hold that actually lasts longer than an hour (!), Brow Freeze has become my everyday brow styling go-to. If you have coarse, curly, straight, or downward-growing brows that need a strong-hold brow product, it’s absolutely worth a shot. Brow Freeze is slightly more tricky to work with than your average brow gel, so here are my tips for brow success.

• Use less than you think you need. In my experience, too much product can lead to clumps and flakes. (I had to try a few times before I nailed my perfect amount of wax.)

• Work a bit of wax around with your spoolie to evenly coat the bristles before applying.

• Working quickly, sculpt your brow hairs in place. The hold isn’t flexible, so once it sets, it’s set.

• For a laminated brow look, use a toothbrush or the metal ferrule of your spoolie to press down firmly on your brow hairs to lock them into place. (Anastasia Beverly Hills recently launched a Brow Freeze Applicator for this exact purpose.)

• Close the jar tightly to keep the formula from drying out when you’re not using it.
