The Beauty Trends Of Tomorrow

26

Ever wonder how beauty brands get their new product ideas? I headed to Cosmoprof North America's beauty expo, the Las Vegas professional trade show where beauty companies go for their inspiration. While natural and organic skin led the movement in skin care (we can't remember how many times we heard "paraben and sulfate-free"), nails and hair stole the spotlight this year. New treatments, formulations, and colors step up the beauty standard—it's not just about a pretty face anymore! Here's a closer look at the most exciting up-and-coming new beauty trends.

Nail Art

It's no surprise that nails will stay strong as a trend. New textures, designs, and gimmicks (magnetic nail polish!) keep things interesting—we saw more glitter, 3D nail art, and decals than we could handle! Did you know that nail decals actually use the same technology as Formula One racing car vinyl decals? Gel manicures are also steadily growing in popularity (keep an eye out for at home gel manicure kits), with Orly's new GelFX line set to become the new Shellac. And from turquoise to olive, green is the next It shade in nails.

Keratin Smoothing Treatments

Keratin hair treatments got a bad rap this year from formaldehyde, but there's still a demand for protein-based hair smoothing treatments that don't contain harsh chemicals. We spotted at least ten keratin products designed to give you sleeker, glossier hair without dangerous toxins. Will you try out this hair trend out at home or in the salon?

Exotic "It" Oils

Oil-based formulations from foreign locations increased dramatically this year in skin, hair, and body lines. Exotics found in macadamia nuts, hemp seeds, and argan nuts continue to star in body and hair care. East coast hair line Amika also incorporates sea buckthorn oil in their hair oil treatments, cultivated from the eponymous berry in Israel. This magical oil has 15 times more vitamin C than an orange!

Hair Extensions

Hair extensions have grown in popularity over the past few years, and are slowly departing from their typically tacky affiliations. Better quality ones made from natural hair allow you to imperceptibly lengthen your hair or go completely wild with color! When you can play outside your comfort zone without a dramatic cut or color, it's a win-win. Companies are also releasing better hair color ranges that reflect the higher standards and creative spirit of the beauty community.
