NEW YORK FASHION WEEK S/S 2012

The Marc by Marc Jacobs spring collection was made for the cool kids. Clean lines, vivid hues of orange and navy, stripe overload, and awesome footwear—it's street chic for the masses.

HAIR

"The inspiration for the show actually referenced my own work from the '90s," said Redken Creative Consultant Guido. "This look started as a ponytail and we reinvented it. But we couldn't keep it simple, so created a more complicated clean and spiky version."

GET THE LOOK
  1. Apply Redken Satinwear 02 Ultimate Blow-Dry Lotion to damp hair and blow-dry.

  2. Pull hair back into a ponytail at the occipital bone and secure with an elastic—make sure the part is hidden and off the face.

  3. Flip the ponytail towards the front of the head and secure the hair with a Goody Jenna Barrette two inches above the elastic.

  4. Flip the ponytail back down towards the nape of the neck and secure with a Goody Jenna Barrette two inches below the elastic to create a bump effect.

  5. Spray the entire shape with Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray.

  6. Pull a few pieces out from the bump and spray with Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray.

  7. Finish the look with a high-shine dose of Redken Glass 01 Smoothing Serum to the area from the hairline to the elastic.

MAKEUP

“Marc had a lot of images of Patsy Klein, Amy Winehouse, and Cowboy Kate, a book from the 60's whose character Kate had heavy eyelashes," said Founder and Creative Director François Nars. "The complexion is meant to look like it's glowing, like the girls have been dancing, and by eliminating the blush it gives a strange, otherworldly effect. The focus was really on the eye, with a well-defined brow. The combination of different touches creates a decadent, French sensuality and makes the girls more like characters."
