Holiday Hair and Party Wear

Just splurged on a new party outfit but have no idea how to do your hair? Sometimes the idea of simply leaving your hair down or creating a half-up style is just too boring. A plain hairstyle not only gives off an “I don’t care” vibe but also makes your stunning new dress or sharp tailored blazer seem just a little less magical. We spoke with Guido Palau, a New York City-based hairstyling genius and Redken creative consultant, who works on fashion shows such as Alexander McQueen, Valentino, and Marc Jacobs, for some tips on how to style your locks this holiday season.

"You can go two different ways," says Guido. "Either opt for a sleek ponytail with a wet look to be ultra sophisticated or wear your hair in braids for a softer, more romantic look."

Beautylish recommends: After creating your braid or ponytail, spray it with L’Oréal Paris Elnett hair spray to hold everything in place.

"I know pussy-bow blouses are big this season, and this is also a look that can go two ways. You can create loose, bouncy waves or keep your look streamlined with a bun," says Guido.

Beautylish recommends: Spray a little Oribe Soft Lacquer Heat Styling Spray into your hair before styling. It will protect it from the cold conditions and maintain glossy, healthy locks.

LACY SKIRT

"Wispy, romantic braids like the ones I did at Valentino are perfect for this," Guido says. "Just be sure to leave out some strands of hair so the braids aren’t too perfect."

Beautylish recommends: Run Tresemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse through your hair before braiding so that when you take your hair out, you’ll still have loose curls.

"You could go the curly route, but I always love a tight, pulled-back ponytail for a powerful, chic look," says Guido. "If you're wearing something structured and tailored, it's nice to follow those lean lines."

Beautylish recommends: Apply Redken Argan-6 Oil before pulling your hair into a ponytail for a sleek polished look.
