Hey what's up everyone? I'm doing a review that was requested on Make Up Forever's HD Foundation, which is this right here. This retails for $40, pretty cheap compared to the other high-end foundations. This is medium to full coverage and it is called High Definition.
This foundation claims to be a second skin; it claims to be able to take harsh lighting so you look good on camera as well as in real life. I heard so much about this foundation but I never thought to give it a try, I never thought to get matched even for this foundation. I was really stuck on NARS and Dior and these other brands but one day when I was going to go buy my dual matte powder by Make Up Forever, which I love so much, and I am on liquid foundation hiatus I just thought I'd swatch it and find out what my color is. I fell in love with its coverage and it looks amazing.
I'm shade 153 and I'm an NC 42 for MAC in case you guys are wondering. It comes with a pump. I used it today for a tutorial that I did so that's why it's all dirty. This is medium to full coverage and I swatched it on my hand and it blended in and it looked amazing. Let me show you guys. It covers really well. It blends in very nicely. I fell in love and I compared it to other foundations while I was there along with my friend. I was like which one do you like better? We were both like so stuck on the HD foundation. I remember watching a million and one reviews on this particular foundation. A lot of people who have dry or normal skin were the one's who were talking about it and I rarely saw anybody with oily skin. I have oily skin so I think that's why I kind of strayed away from it. I'd always tried to wear foundations that claimed to be for oily skin. I'm really happy that I came across it finally after hearing about it for like two years. I love that it covers imperfections. I don't need as much concealer if I wear this.
I do not wear this on a daily basis; I stick to my powder foundation. If I want to do a tutorial or on special occasions, I will put this on and I will use this. I know now the question's going to be well do you like it more than your NARS Sheer Glow that I was in love with for the longest time? Do you like it more than the Dior Forever that I loved? Yes, I do. This beats all the liquid foundations that I've ever used. This even beats the Make Up Forever Matte Velvet and I thought that Matte Velvet would be pretty good. But I've always liked it but I never loved it. I would use it sometimes just because I don't want to waste the product. I mean I bought it so I might as well use it but I like rarely ever use that foundation. The coverage is okay, sometimes I find it to be too drying for my skin.
This is like perfect. It doesn't make you look totally like matte, like weirdly matte but it gives you a nice kind of glow and awesome coverage. How I apply this foundation is I use a regular foundation brush. It gives you more coverage when you use a regular foundation brush opposed to kind of like a blendy brush. I know that some people use the 109, some people use, I don't know, other brushes like the 187, whatever. What I do is I put it on with my regular foundation brush and I blend it with my Sephora Air Brush. It's called an Air Brush, I know it's not the real air brush but this is called an Air Brush from Sephora. I kind of blend it out with that. It gives me an amazing look.
I'm wearing it right now. I know I didn't talk about how much is in here but I mean every foundation has one fluid ounce. It's nothing different. It has one fluid ounce. I bought this maybe last month or a few weeks ago I have to say and I've only used this three times because I don't use this daily, I use my powder foundation. I love that there's a wide range of shades. If you're really dark, if you're really light, if you're medium, blah, blah, blah I bet you could find a shade for you.
Something that I noticed when I washed this foundation off was my skin felt really dry. I don't know if you guys have had that problem before but like, yeah, my face was like super dry. Not like flakey, not super like crazy dry but like it was pretty dry. I thought that was kind of odd. I don't know if you guys ever experienced that but then again I've only used it a few times.
I know I'm going to get some questions asking if I like this better than Make Up Forever Face and Body Foundation. I kind of do like HD Foundation better than Face and Body. I feel like they serve two different purposes. The HD Foundation is high definition but I feel like the Face and Body Foundation, it's waterproof, it's very thin, it's very liquidy, it's for your face and your body. It's more for people who have good skin already. It kind of just enhances it and it's waterproof. I feel like it's just two totally different things. I can't really compare it because I feel like it serves two different purposes. I don't use any on a daily basis.
There are two setting powders that I feel are really good with HD Foundation. I know that people off top are just going to get the HD powder, which is really nice but sometimes I like to set it with my MSF natural. These are two really good setting powders for the HD Foundation. Is it worth the $40? Yes, it is. Would I repurchase? Yes, I would. It's by far, I have to say, the best foundation, the best liquid foundation that I have ever tried. The way it goes onto your skin is very smooth and it's really effortless to blend it in.
I hope that this review was helpful to you all who want to look into it. All my oily skin people don't be too scared to try it. I've always heard that it works well for normal to dry but we could wear it too because it doesn't make you look too oily. It's pretty like satin to matte kind of finish but it doesn't make you look so matte, not like dried out or anything. If you have any comments or anything like that about the HD Foundation feel free to leave comment below and I will talk to you guys later.
