Mexican Fruit Bats in Austin, Texas. Just before sunset is when the bats leave their area of hiding under the bridge. They filled the sky like bees coming out of their hive. Minutes prior to the bats leaving 3 young crazy guys jumped off the bridge. They survived the jump and swam to shore. But the Austin Police Department was there very quickly to look for the jumpers and arrest them. The best time to view the bats leaving their hiding place is between 8:30 - 8:45, butnyou must get there before 8:30pm crowds are big and it is hard to find a viewing spot if you arrive late.
